Success certainly contingents on several supporting factors.

Actually, as a company we are re-crossing the chasm, each time we get comfortable, we start to become restless and emerge with new ideas that build on our existing model......so in a way we are continuously challenging ourselves for organic growth.
Btw, we also believe in the butterfly story, it's struggle that makes us grow by leaps and bounds.

After reading 5 pages of posts, I have no clue what the griping is about. Is it too much g’ment or too little g’ment? Or is it really, as vks puts it, the ‘soft-bellyed’ Singaporean who has been coddled to death.
My view, the g’ment is a victim of its own success, created a griping, navel gazing generation who use public policy as a crutch, and blame the g’ment like spoilt brats when their toys get taken away by someone else more deserving.
Cream rises to the top, whatever the environment. If one were a truly exceptional talent, he would flourish anywhere, and Singapore, with all the basic amenities in place, opportunity for diversified education and social security, is as good as any other country, and better than most. If one has not succeeded here, then I’d suggest one take a look inside before blaming externalities. -

So what is it about standard of living that has not improved? Just curious to see how one defines it....

Yeah love the story! Very apt! -
Not a gripe, 3boys. Just social commentary. Yeah, cream rises to the top. But there is such a thing as a frog in a well.

Forummers were commenting on Tharman's encouragement for entreprenuership
n whether d conditions were conducive.
So everyone here is a navel gazing griping lot while u r d cream?
u know, fat, like cream also rises to d top.
Even fat can only rise to d top when d conditions r right, not whatever the environment. -

Opening para:
Warren Buffett likes to say that anything good that’s ever happened to him can be traced back to the fact that he was born in the right country—America—at the right time. And it’s true: while remarkable individuals can be found in any nation on earth, certain countries give their citizens much greater opportunity to succeed than others at certain points in time. It’s an issue that is particularly pressing today. As wealth and power shift from West to East, and a new post-crisis world order continues to take shape, it’s no longer clear that being born and raised in Omaha offers quite the edge that it once might have.
blah blah blah......
