The Learners publisher HCL books are also very good. Comes complete with oral, listening, short story writing for P1 book, picture compo for P2 book and other exercises like 词语搭配 and comprehension. P1 book (2007) is by 梁敏 and P2 book (2008) is by 陈岩.
Can anyone recommend me a good assessment book for P1 chinese? I prefer those exercises that build up step by step, like the peter & Jane series kinda style. So that it helps DS1 to build up his confidence for the subject.
You can also consider the SAP publishers (seahorse logo), comes in book 1a and 1b, likewise for p2. -

Hopefully so. For Berries next year, ds is placed in the HCL P1 class so should be able to supplement what is taught in PH rite?
Not that bad if your ds goes to Berries. Come P1 Berries will catch up too just go thru the Berries lesson notes with your ds consistently and he will be fine. -

It should be fine. My dd is in Tien Hsia and she is doing great in HCL because Tien Hsia follows the MOE syllabus very closely and she was drilled through the examination questions week after week till my dd complained that it was too boring. I put a gamble next year in moving her to Berries for P2. Hopefully it will work as well or even better for her. If not I will have to move her back to Tien Hsia.

My son’s CL exam was a surprise…it was just 1 hour and son told me many sections were taken out like 汉语拼音,完成对华…his 2 weak areas.
Hi Mrsbongz,
You can consider getting ‘Higher Chinese Intensive Exercises’ written by 韦渊. Victoria Publications. There is also ‘Score in Higher Chinese’ by EPH publication. -
Thanks for the recommendations.. Will be heading to Popular later!! Haha, I'm already speaking to my mom if she will teach DS how to do those assessment books.. sometimes I can't even read the questions!!

I am contemplating to switch mine from Berries to Tien Hsia (or private one-to-one) for her P4 next year. I find for her P3, berries coverage is not intensive enough for HCL, I have to cover most job. I review Tien Hsia materials, and agree that they are abit dry, but very close to school text context.

She started with Berries at P2. She was alright throughout that level. -

Have you consider Science Buddies as there is one at BT?
I sent in my application at Perceptum since it was one of the recommended Sci tuition centre by one of the members here. Did not know it is so HOT.
I think not many teachers can teach Sci well. Next year I need to spend more time with my elder boy on his HCL, so thinking of outsourcing the younger one. See how first, take small steps at a time and adjust my plans accordingly. -

I will like to advise you not to buy too many assessment books as it might overwhelm him and you too. Perhaps one book for oral and listening and another for HCL topical exercises following the school syll. for a start.
For dd, i use The School Curriculum.based Series for Oral and Listening it comes with CD hence make your job easier ( by 黄美莲 )
For Topical exercises, can try 小一高级华文同步练习 by SAP. I only used this when dd is in P2. -

How do you order and deliver the books since they only accept UK or Ireland order online? Am thinking of buying some books there.http://www.thebookpeople.co.uk
Now there is one package collection offering 42 books at 20 pounds...
But they don't offer all the titles at the same time....before x'mas they use to throw out good offer....I got it within 2 weeks...
if you plan to buy in bulk, it is definitely more worth it to purchase from overseas...and also save the 7% GST. -
vpost europe but remember unlike vpost usa, you can’t consolidate your orders for vpost europe.
