      Jennifer:
I noticed those few top schools produce a high no. of Platinum, Gold and Silver holders. Do they adopt some other Maths prog geared towards such achievement? No wonder every year these schools are so popular for P1 registration.

Most of these schools are GEP schools so it it no wonder. On top of that, the parents are more likely to send their children for training.

        Jennifer:

        Hi, mathsparks.

I see that Maths Oasis has PSLE intensive Maths in Jun, is it worth signing up for? TIA your recommendation.
        Sorry Jennifer,
son didn't attend the PSLE courses so I'm unable to comment.

My son was lucky and got a Platinum last year after trained by ALC. I was quite impressed and followed up to let him attend the DSA course. The centre prepared him with GAT, interview and boosted his confidence and motivation. To my surprise, he managed to secure DSA offers from several top IP schools. I am now planning for my other kids. In case some of u are interested, the tel to ALC is 65697773.

Do they have email? Or a website?

I am just curious, is your son from mainstream or GEP?

May I know what ALC stand for? How long was the maths olympiad training? Where is it located. How long was the DSA training and for what schools? I am just curious how you know if the training is relevant to the school you are applying for?

Anyone who gets a Platinum in the Maths Olympiad is almost guaranteed a chance in the IP schools through DSA. This is the type of \"talent\" they are looking for, to help the school win more awards in the years to come. And also, these schools have the resources to further develop and nurture these talents.

So now we know why most of those Olympiad winners (in Sec, you have Physics, Maths, Chem, Infocomm etc) come from the few IP schools.

I must agree with you that the kind of talent sought after by these IP schools are of the highest level. One example is getting a platinum for SMOPS. Even for sports, music or other fields, it the pupil with exceptional kind of talent that stands a chance to secure a seat via DSA in schools like RGS,RI, HCI .....especially if the student is not from GEP stream. GEP students some how or rather are able to secure places in one of the IP schools, many get offers from more than 1 school.

                      For non-GEP students

My son is from the main stream. ALC does have a website and email address but sorry I cannot remember. I only store its contact no in my mobile…
