Would You Let Your Kids Skip School
-
kiddo:
:salute: to you.I will let my DS skip primary school before and for a few days
as we need to travel to see his grandma and she is quite old .
What I did is collect all the worksheets and help to catch up when we
are back home, this way he have a continuity.
Its works out fine , Have done this for many years when DS is in Primary
school, now that he is in Sec sch , we let him fly home earlier before us
while we stay behind, he look after himself for this period and get himself to
school.
:celebrate:
By the way, do you have parents who are living here? -

I see, you were not referring to the CNY period but the last day of school term.
For next June, leave on Friday.Busymom:
Ah, so do you mean taking him out on Tuesday or on Wednesday?

Once every few years? True or not?
Marry a foreigner and stay there? then he should pay for my trip to go over there once every few years.....
...but then his wife probably will complain....:!:
If true, you are very liberal... must tell my DD to find MIL like you.

Lucky you! In fact, I always think why must the guy's side be superior? This is just a Chinese thinking. I have Malay customers from Malaysia being surprised that I do this every year. They actually thought it should be alternated between both sides. We are not particular about CNY celebrations. Got come visit yearly is good enough.... In SG, my PIL has reunion dinner 1 week earlier to beat the crowd so I get to eat reunion dinner with my parent on the eve.
Just speaking for myself, I have DD and DS. I would be sad if she marries a foreign Chinese one day and can't have reunion with the family every year. Since we treat DD and DS equally regardless of their gender, why should such matters as family reunion be dictated by some old-fashioned thinking? -

Now I think I am confused by you. -

Nothing wrong with going on vacation if the school is closed. If it is official public holiday or school closure, I am fine. If it is a school day, I won't take my kids out of school just for visitation / vacation. I just don't think these are good enough reasons for them to take leave from school (personal opinion). Maybe I am a bit rigid here.BlueBells:
Hmmmm ... I wouldn't do it, starting from the time they are in kindergartens. I have discussed it with my spouse when my nanny allowed her P1 to skip school for CNY visitation (many years ago). Our decision since then is no. We don't want the children to get the wrong message.
Pray tell, what is the wrong message? That it is wrong to go on a vacation when there is school, even if it is for CNY?
I know different parents think differently and maybe different schools treat this issue differently. Hence, I'm trying to understand more and hear from other parents. -
Busymom:
Ah.. yes the make-up classes will be a bummer...
My DH would love that I have this mentality...RRMummy:
i would..max abt a week... especially if they are only in P1
Will definitely talk to the FT before that and bring along anything she will miss during this time....
But in my kid's case, she will have a number of make-up classes to do as well... in the past, we usually forgo a couple (DD & DS) that are kinda expensive as no make-up allowed... :moneyflies: -

afterall, if my kids eventually go overseas to work, i do like them to take leave from their busy workschedule and take the time to fly back and celebrate such occasions with me
:hi5: :hi5:
And CNY is a very important day for the old folks.. :celebrate: -
My son will be going for an op on 11 Nov...so I will be keeping him at home from 8th onwards...which so happens 8th Nov is the day his class will be going for some outdoor activity. Can't afford to have him hit his head (TOUCHWOOD) or fall sick. So will keep him at home.
Otherwise, I won't let my kids skip school esp when they are at primary level...need some peace at home
