Maybe I'm a skeptic. Too many factors involved to make it works.
If Grace Fu is made the Minister of MOE after the next election and drive this hard, maybe it will succeed but I'm still having my doubts. Idealism and actual implementation can be miles apart even though the program itself is good. MOE is one of the hardest Ministry to restructure and thus far do not have a Minister that stays long enough to do the work. Will have to wait and see.
Mr Mah is very good .. like a businessman ... any ministry he headed sure make money, MOE got no money to make only expenses.

Maybe the Education ministry needs one like him bcos he could see things from a different perspective as compared to Grace Fu and Ng Eng Hen...Grace Fu is too deep in Education while Dr Ng is rather serious too...not very healthy for MOE....maybe that's why we are stressed.

I think either CKS or vk2010 posted this before. Next time an enterpreneur MOE minister will come along and implement a variant COE system in lieu of P1 balloting. Think of the dough that can be made here :evil: . Then overnight MOE will become profit ctr in the same band as Inland Revenue.

Mr. Mah may introduce method like more BTO projects etc or whatever rules to cool down the overheated education system that we are facing now.

Read in the 2010 GEP post that some schs hv informed the parents whose child passed the selection test. Any idea has PH informed the parents?

Mr Mah is definitely one minister the govt wants...and more like him around. HaHaHa. -

i mentioned his name was because probably he is the only minister dares to implement policies sailing against the wind....another one maybe is KBW. Look at what happened to Ng Eng Hen...
there are too many powerful voices around.
Last time, we had chinese educated vs english educated..
the SAP was so successful implemented that now we have
chinese educated + bilingual vs english educated, so Ng Eng Hen failed...
also facing strong school alumni
such as RI vs ACS vs SJI vs HCI and so on...
then we have another group, this one sensitive so i don't mention...
So who can be our next Education minister who can make major transform in the education so that parents and kids will not be so stress up while kids pursuing their studies....
who dare to make changes in P1 registration system such as removing P2B, etc..?

It seems that she IS friendly to students and has compassion. It is from her conversations with students that she found those in weak classes have inferiority complex. For eg, she said that when she asked the child which class is he/she from, the child did not dare tell her he/she is from \"Patience\". so sad...Pei Hwa is popular and has a WOW factor...tough exam papers and fierce teachers. When I meet parents who have kids in other schools, they tell me how academic driven PH is.
I do wish the principal is friendly and acknowledges the students when they greet her. This reminds me of the principal I had in secondary school who only acknowledges the students who have rich parents. :x -

How about having differentiated questions in a worksheet, instead of differentiating the worksheets. The same worksheet will be assigned to all the banded classes. The high-ability class can attempt all the questions, the middle-ability can also try and do that, as for the weaker ones, they must do the basic questions, yet the rest of the more difficult questions are still opened for them to attempt but not compulsory. Solutions should still be given to these unattempted questions. In this case, they will not feel so 'differentiated' doing only worksheets meant for their ability. They could also be exposed to more challenging questions at the same time.
I think the current worksheets already have something similar. there is a section called \"Challenging Practice\" in MA. Perhaps the weaker ones can skip this section or make it optional.
