Class 95 FM DJs-against students bowing to teacher/principal

It is ok to talk about it over the radio, but to ridicule about this bowing culture is just not right, we are after all an Asian society!

used to be still tolerable but slowly found their comments rather ridiculous and irresponsible...have since moved on to gold 90...hahahha...became ah pek already!

Same here. I have found the station DJs 2B sarcastic and rude at times and their views are pretty shallow in my opinion.

I have also move on to gold 90.5...becoming ah soh liao. :lol: :lol:

While i do not object bowing to higher authority, i do not think it is necessary, unless one's culture requires one to bow.
I believe it is not in the Singaporean culture to bow.
However students should greet teachers and school staff politely and the staff should acknowledge them too.
Also educators should set good example to their students too.

I think that we are basically an Asian society so bowing to show respect is kinda like part of our culture.

So bowing may be encouraged but should not be imposed.

I never listen to the radio but have long heard of the absurd views of some of these DJs. I do understand that they have got into trouble before. Most of their views are just loads of crap to me.. oops, excuse me for being crude. :oops: With the slashing cases going on, probably it's cos children are constantly fed with such :!: over the radio that respect and moral values have gone down the drain. It's a matter of courtesy to greet or bow or smile or any bodily form of expression to acknowledge someone. When in Japan, somehow I was drawn to follow their practice to bow in return. Nothing degrading, seriously. :roll: DS3's school requires that all teachers are addressed as \"Sir\" or \"Madam\" just as in the military and as far as I know, all parents are happy with it. Children have to learn to submit to authority and if a child doesn't learn to do so when young, he will never submit to the law and order of the country when he grows up. Moreover, bowing is not a form of submission to authority, just a form of greetings and a way of showing respect. :roll:

So bowing may be encouraged but should not be imposed.[/quote]Although not all Asian cultures bow to show respect but when in the context of Singapore, where Chinese is the majority followed by Malays, it is in our culture to bow to show respect. A bow may be limited to just lowering the head and not necessary the 90 degree bow.

I think that it is not the differing views by Glen that has sparked this thread but rather the way he conveys his ideas. Sometimes we may need to put across a message in a way that is not offensive to others of differing views.

I do like to listen to them most of the times but as what it has been mentioned, the way Glen bring across his strong disagreement abt the bowing issue is really :(... It is really bringing the wrong idea and message to the young ones and to those already very rebellious teenages...
