P3 Assessment Books (English, Maths, Science & Chinese)

Personnally I bought the past years papers from top school ... the questions set are relevant to their level and found them much better than the assessment books ....

yes i agree that exam papers are essential especially when it's nearing the exams. need to get our kids used to the exam conditions.

but i think that assessment books are also important because we need to drill them on the basics first. if not, they will lose their confidence if they try the exam papers first.

just my 2 cents worth.

Yes and some of the answers for synthesis for P4-6 are also unreliable. But if you are sure of answers yourself, then past year exam papers are a good buy

are the Science answers for these online free past yr papers reliable? my boy going P3 next yr and i am very new to this subject.

I am using EPH Higher Chinese Compreh (a blue cover), by Lee Yan. I also have EPH Chinese Compreh (also blue cover) by the same person.

thanks! think will drop by BPP popular during yr end (i presume you got most of your stuff there too ). went to Lot1 popular last weekend and couldn't seem to find anything suitable....the staff had rearranged the shelves to make space to facilitate the yearend sch books order.

So far, I found most are ok but for science esp for open ended qns, your answer must be quite exact with the right key words, sometimes the answers given are not that exact. So I also ask my friend's tutor to help check. Her tutor comes to the house and also gives top school papers to do so at the same time can check if answers are accurate. But dont worry, most of the time, it should be ok. You can buy guidebooks (marshall canvendish) to help you with the science concepts too.

The trend is always first 20 questions all correct and then mistakes started to kick in after.

Could it be he is tired?

If my P3 boy does not take the afternoon nap, it is very difficult to get anything learnt. This year, I made him go to bed by 9.20pm during the exam period.

I don't think he is tired but more to his attention span is short. If we were to sit next to him and watch him, the carelessness was very much reduced.

I was at Popular this evening, wow so many types of Maths assessment books.

Saw a P3/4 Science 3 in 1 Teachers' Circle by Joshua Lim & Julia Chan. Inside has qns on graphs n more on those Yes/No flowchart qns. The one I have by Janet Sim does not hv sufficient qns in this aspect, my boy did not so well for such type of qns. Will be buying this soon.

May I know how many assessement books per subject do you usually get for your kids ? I realised that there isn't any 1 book that covers everything required. It's like usually we need minimum 2 books per subject. And yet too many assessment books, we may not have time to complete them all.

For the past 2 years (P1 & P2), I did not give any past years papers to my boy. I was wondering if it's necessary then. However, a classmate of my boy improved pretty well after doing the past years paper. I may used them this year, I guess. Do I get them from the internet better or from those stalls at the malls better ?

Also, I, too, agreed with 'happy_learner' that past years papers are more for when it's nearer to the CAs and SAs period. Especially the CAs as I realised there are very little available in those packages. I think assessment books are still important for weekly revision purpose.
