There was a encore of the English version today at 630pm at CNA. Seems like primary school under PAL doing their own thing. So next time another criterion to select Primary school will be how good their PAL program is?

          mum0408:
          Dear all,

My child is going to P1 soon in 3 mths time. I am very worried about her concentration in class.

Most of her k1-k2 teachers said that she is quite a fast learner, therefore sometimes she seems a little 'bored' in class...That worries me because P1 is definitely not as easy as Pre-school.

She is also very forgetful. She will forgets where she places her book, her bottle is always missing...etc. I’m tired of reminding her to do her spelling, ting xie every week....I wish she can be more independent.

I'm thinking to send her to one of those holiday programme which teach student how to be more responsible and concentrate in their studies.

          Any recommendation? :?:

I agree with you that decision making skills to balance work and play and ability to delay gratification are important skills to have when entering P1. Looking back at my son when he was in P1 last year, most of the time spent on coaching him is not so much on the academic work but more on teaching him how to make decisions such as to stay focus on homework so that he finish them in shorter time. Then he will have time for himself. And how not to give up and keep trying when he encounter a difficult piece of chinese work. And how to control his emotions when he is frustrated. And how to set goals and stay motivated...

Not forgetting also all the time spent on talking about peer problems he encounter with his friends in school. And to guide him to make decision by considering the various perspectives and consequences....

All these can be very hard to guide and takes time. Ultimately, as parents, we want them to internalise the various strategies and have the ability to make good decisions themselves.

Having been through it, I thought it would be good to give parents and children a headstart in all these issues. Afterall, we all know that if our children cannot settle in emotionally and fit in socially, they will not be able to learn... Hence in this year's holiday programme at Nurture, there is one especially to help K2 children and their parents with this important transition.

                    Hi smurf,
Read in other threads that some parents are interested in SPI bags so I thought I would inform the others about the SPI sale, not promoting for them.
Ya, the price may be a bit steep but considering the ergonomic features and durability, it's worth it. DD1 used her SPI bag for 3 years before trading in for a new one. She could have continued using the bag if she wanted to but she found the design too childish. Both DDs prefer SPI bags. They like the contours of the bags and how the bags sit nicely on their backs. I guess it's up to individual preference. πŸ˜„
Nowadays, our kids' bags can be quite heavy so hopefully, with the ergonomic features, it can somewhat help their spines. Just my 2cents worth.

Oh, thought why SPI so popular...so it's quite a quality bag? Was trying to decided whether to get the SPI or the pacific bookstore ergo bag...but ds is only p1, and the PAC bookstore bag is only $29.90, (original $69.90). So we decided to buy this. πŸ˜„

Maybe wait until he knows how to treasure his things first...haha...
