I wonder if any PH teachers read this forum.. will they freak out when reading PH's thread..

I told my fren who is teaching in another school.. she was quite freaked out that 'such parents/forum' exist. 😎 but she found it sobering to know of the parents' views on the school.

maybe someone should mention to that HOD abt this forum.. and give him a wake up call?? LOL!!

*if u do, I better erase this post!! πŸ˜‰

              Question:

Does anyone knows the optional books like those below, what are the use of these? Are they used by teacher or we own self coach kid on them?
              - Exploring Reading Bk,
              - MPH Grammer HandBook/WorkBooks
              - Stellar HandWritting

Especially stellar which is not under optional, yet I dont see it being mentioned for bringing to school.

              Thanks πŸ™‚

Forgot to mention these are P1 books..

During my dd's time(yr 2008), she used the Stellar Hadwriting Book. The teacher would ask them to bring to school. I am not sure about the other books.

I don't know whether teachers should drum up enough courage to read this thread. Might be bad for their heart πŸ˜‰ .

But P definitely should come here regularly. It's direct market research. Straight from the horse's (parents) mouth.

Even Boston Consulting Group doesn't get much better than this. And best part is that it's free πŸ˜„

                  Hi BraisedPorkBelly,

The Stellar Handwriting book will be used. My dd's Grammar and Vocab Handbooks are published by Teacher's Production. They could be different from yours. Her P1 teacher(s) used very little of each. Her P2 teacher used the Vocab handbook excessively...according to my dd, it's like a \"flood of words\".

P1 to P2: en-bloc, only selective \"naughty\" kids will be split up and placed in different classes.

                    P2 to P3: 9 classes (40 kids in each).

Top 80 will do S-banding (alternating positions) into two top classes based on level ranking. That means 1st position to first class, 2nd position to second class, 3rd position back to first class, 4th position to second class and so on to 80th position.

Next 80 will do the same, S-banding them to the next two classes starting from 81st to third class, 82nd to fourth class, 83rd back to third class, 84th to fourth class...all the way to 160th position.

The remaining 200 kids will do S-banding for the remaining 5 classes. 161st to fifth class, 162nd to sixth class, 163rd to seventh class, 164th to eighth class, 165th to ninth class, 166th back to fifth class, 167th to sixth class,...all the way to 360th position.

In this way, the ability of the top 4 classes will be more evenly spread out in 2 sets of 2 classes. There will not be a best class like Charity now. The first two classes will have similar ability, so does the next 2 classes. The materials used for the top two classes will be the same, likewise for the next two classes.

The remaining 5 classes will have mixed ability.

The suggested naming of the classes will be according to levels based on the School Values in this tentative sequence:

                    P1: Integrity 1, Integrity 2, Integrity 3 ...
                    P2: Respect 1, Respect 2, Respect 3...
                    P3: Responsibility 1, Responsibility 2, Responsibility 3...
                    P4: Teamwork 1, Teamwork 2, Teamwork 3...
                    P5: Loyalty 1, Loyalty 2, Loyalty 3...
P6: Resilience 1, Resilience 2, Resilience 3...(newly created cos there are only 5 school values)

The 1s and 2s will not be the top classes, the top might be the end classes instead - Respect 10 and Respect 11.

There will be Math banded classes (M1, M2, M3, M4) for the P4s. For the P5s to P6s, no change, the usual Math, CL and HCL banded classses.

All these are tentative. She will meet other level parents on Monday to seek their views too. Once everything is confirmed, parents will be notified and the children will also be informed. πŸ˜“

Haha. Not immediate...need to settle dinner too. The dialogue wasn't very long, less than an hour.
