Your daughter taking HCL at P1 ?
No. The HCL books are from my niece who's from another school.

          >>>[Parents now are allowed to opt out of Catechism class. During my time, all of us, regardless of Catholics or not, have to sit in and listen. Ethics is good and teaches morals.

          hi Guppy and all,
thks for the religious studies info. it’s helpful to know. i also called up the school, and hv separately had a look at the catechism book. it’s a ‘christian’ kids’ workbook called 'Jesus and me" and is like a journey through all the Bible stories with some age-appropriate questions and thinking time.

the school mentioned that all e catholics have to join catechism class, which is where this book is used. non-catholics can choose to join too, or go to moral ed. i’ve decided to let my dd join the catechism because it seems to give a good grounding in the Bible.

i was just wondering if anyone noticed something unusual on the ballet form > see e asterisked line below ‘terms and conditions’:

*"Please note…our office assistant male /or female staff) will be helping yr girl throughout the 1st month of her ballet lessons"

i’m wondering aloud why an ‘office astnt’ will be helping the girls with ballet in the 1st month, when there shd be a dance teacher who will be doing the teaching?

ie how will they help them? surely there is not admin work that the children r required to go through with them? /and if it’s to assist the kids physically with poise/positioning etc, then why use an ‘office astnt’ and more imporatnly, why ‘male’, esp for the P1’s who may be quite naive?

just wondeing if anyone else found that odd?

oh yes, and on another note, anyone with dd’s already there in ballet… cd u lmk how large the average size of each ballet class is? ie how many teacher(s) to how many kids?

            tia,
            el

              Hi mummies of P1 2010,

What school bag and pencil box does your dd bring to school? Bcos during yesterday orientation, the principal said:"No fancy and stylish one." So does that mean even have cartoon characters eg. Barbie, Hello Kitty… also cannot only can use plain one? Thanks.

I think its not really cannot have fancy pencil box, but more advisable, thats all. If your dd already have something like hello kitty etc... then just use it I guess, no point buying another one...

I was just wondering if we can actually buy the uniforms on our own from the shop/tailor instead of going down to the school on the set dates - 24 or 26 Nov. A little more convenient - but I guess the school might be afraid that we buy slightly wrong colour etc... but it shouldn't be if we're buying from the actual shop/tailor the school is using. and is there a difference in blue for the various IJ schools, I cant tell, maybe for St. Nicholas, where its very slightly lighter blue I think

There is still other dates stated in the booklist (Dec 10) if you cannot make it on these two dates. I think it is more convenient to buy everything (uniforms and books) from the school.

I called Popular to enquire the availability of some of the books in the book list…there were few books not for sale there…besides, still have to buy report book, school badge, uniforms etc from the school. So I pre-ordered to buy everything from Pacific instead.

Compared prices of some books and found that there is not much difference even with the 5% discount at Popular.

As for pencil case, I find that the SPI is not bad. My son has been using it since P1 and going to P5 next yr. As for school bag, trolley bag is a NO NO.

                      Hi mummies,

Any ideas what is dance and gym and we need to pay $200++ for it? Is it compulsory? What about Reading Recovey Programme? Is it an extra lesson and have to stay back after school? How many days per week? Thanks.

Hubby did mention this to me, but I wasn't in the mood to listen as son and I are not feeling well.

As for Reading Recovery, he mentioned that it is for the girls who are not able to read and can only identify the alphabets. Dance and Gym lessons are conductioned during curriculum time and is compulsory for P1 and P2.
