        INNOVATE:
First posting in this popular thread.

Good cca record, robust character and communication skills are just as important.
        :welcome:

Agree with U on the Importance of CCA, Character Development, etc.

        However P don't seem to think like US - leh! 😒 😒

On this CCA development aspect, in PH Parents will have to take on Larger Role to find and plan your own path. In another words, B MORE KS   ....

School is Not \"GREAT\" when it comes to this Dept ..... Not very supportive-lah!

That’s why must select secondary school carefully. Need to excercise wisdom in this respect. Excellence in ccas, character building, independent learning etc all these may be invisible at pri level but they are all critical at sec level. You will see for yourself later that many who excel at pri and sec may not do that well at pre-uni level.

Choose the cca you believe your child can excel and fully support it. Any mistake made change quickly. Top schools may be suitable for top PSLE performers but may not be suitable for many others good performers.

Hope you get the hint. God bless.

Perhaps at level 3 onwards, can just indicate the mean & highest/lowest scores within the class and cohort. When a std reaches P5 or P6, there will be an indicator to let them know what is his/her PSLE score would be like, so that they will know where they stand.

After every CA / SA, together with the Report Book - My Gal Always bring Back a Sheet of Summary Table
            - Showing Each of the Subject's Highest / Lowest / Avg Score in the Level as well as in her Class. My Gal's Score in Each of the subject is indicated in the Table as Well.
So it is Quite easy to see where she stand among her Classmates / her peers in the Same Level.

            Do U Receive this?

Yes, I do. What I mean that the present system of showing this in P3 (till P6 assuming also receive) is good enough. Don't need to explicitly indicate the position and level to stds. Internally, the school can then promote them according to whatever criteria/rules. To encourage them, the school can award perhaps top five stds without revealing their position in class. In that way, the stds in the weaker class will feel good too. This is just a suggestion. πŸ˜„

Well U may Not Get Support of Many of the Parents on this \"STICKY\" Issue ....

There R Other School Practicing this ....  (I gather from other threads in this Forum) and Some of the Mum and Dad in these schools Prefer the Positions to be Revealed - to Micro-manage, I guess ....

Yeah thanks, I've been Practicing it with my Gal.
Frankly, She spend more Time on CCA than Academic when \"OFF\" School Hours ....

I want her to Enjoy her ChildHood.
Guess I'm Still a \"Kampong\" GaL at Heart .... Life is Not ALL Study only ....
Hopefully she can Remember Her ChildHood Fondly when she's my Age, doing Many of her Favourite Things ....

As for Secondary School, it's still a Bit \"Pre-matured\" at this stage to decide which to Target for ....
Need to see whether she Got the \"Liao\" to apply for the school or Not when her report Book is Returned to us Next Tue ....

I am pleased that you are adopting wise habits. As long as your kid can maintain level position within the top 100 consistently, that’s good results. The approach is laying foundation for the training of critical thinking at later stage.

As for the β€˜liao’ just leave it to God.

But U R Right, As long As my Kid is maintaining more or less same Level Position (OR by FLUTE-Luck - Better Level Position despite spending more time on CCA), I will let My Gal continue with what she's been doing ALL this While ....

                      comfy:
Actually, I like your idea of getting rid of the level ranking but perhaps not all level 6. The children needs to identirly at lower levels so that teachers can help them and parents need to be aware how well the children are coping. Perhaps at level 3 onwards, can just indicate the mean & highest/lowest scores within the class and cohort. When a std reaches P5 or P6, there will be an indicator to let them know what is his/her PSLE score would be like, so that they will know where they stand.

I'm glad we think alike. My take is that when sch publishes the internal ranking, this makes it obvious that students are competing with each other. But if sch only publishes the mean/std dev/max/min scores, then it looks more like students are competing against the system.

Best part is that parents will not be inclined to overstress the kids. Heard that in one class, all except one kid scored 100% for maths. The remaining kid scored 90+. It will look ridiculous if he/she got 99% but ranking states as last in class :? . This just seems so unfair & best avoided.

Yes, I thnk so. Sigh.... Parents can be hard to please. Hope that I am not stepping on someone's toes. Don't be angry, ok.
Don't want to \"put down\" stds or stress/pressure them but at the sametimes want to know results in details. Personally, I feel most kids don't bother much about stds or levels (except for a few) when I observe my dd's class. Perhaps is the parents' expectation.
