I have viewed Hailun piano. The sound is very nice...but havent bought it.

I was reading that some of you bot a Hailun HL125? Can i know what brand is that and where is the shop situated?

Can i also seek advice in the sense that between Yamaha and Cristofori - is Yamaha way better (both having sales now - so im wondering which is a better buy).

If i stick to Yamaha - would you advice to buy a beginner piano and upgrade later or directly buy a good one (abit worried that it might become a white elephant should my ds give up!!)

Hi Swallow,
I bought a 2nd hand kawai piano for my children initially from Robert Piano (The dealer for 1st hand pianos for kawai in singapore). Subsequently when they moved up to upper grades, I traded in the 2nd hand for a brand new piano. Why don’t to check out robert piano before u purchase one? Personally I think it’s rather ex to pay $5800 for a 2nd hand piano.

Yes, I bought my second-hand piano from Piano Gallery. I gave them a budget and they showed me the few that's within the budget. Eventually I bought a 26-yr-old Kawai from them. The condition looked very good, to me. Like you, I was attracted to the sound of it and thankfully, I bought it bcos I heard someone else came later wanting it too. I can't comment whether the set u said is value for money as I am not into piano, but just be comfortable with what you pay. I believe the second hand shops would all offer the same things - trade-in, 1 or 2 free tunings, warranty, foc items like piano bench, etc. I only visited another 2nd-hand shop and in comparison to that, the pianos in Piano Gallery are in better condition though those within my budget is above 20 yrs old. I compromise on the age since I could not on budget. I also am told that they don't do recondition. Speak to the male boss if u r keen; he may give some discount but there's so much he'll less. This piano u see is in the smaller showroom coz it seems the newer ones are there? I saw mine in the bigger showroom. My fren waited and went back for round 2 and she had to settle for another piano coz the one she wanted is gone. The pianos turnover pretty fast, btw. I understand they are venturing into supplying piano parts to other countries and not dealing in pianos and that's something to think abt when it comes to warranty and repairs when u need, btw.

Vicki, yes, Yamaha is tons better than Cristofori. Yamaha will also have a better resale value. If budget is not a problem then you can consider getting the U1 which is the better of the "lower ends". Demand in the resale market will be higher for U1s too. The other low end models are pretty badly made and the sound is quite terrible. If you’re settling for one of these then I’d suggest getting a Cristofori with that money (if you’re only interested in these two brands), otherwise can consider some other makes in the market. Or secondhand.
