Wow, U must have Gone thru A Lot in 10 years .....Hi Funx3,
We really waited 10 years for this operation...not a joke.
He was born with cleft lip and palate. At 2 mth, he had lip repaired and palate repaired at 8 months. There are different stages of development. After lip and/or palate is repaired, there is a lapse of few years...whereby they will have speech therapy. When he was 8, he started to see the orthodontist who will examine his jaw structure. At the end of last year, the jaw structure started to stabilize (went for several X-rays). In fact, some kids have this bone graft op at 12 or 13 years old.
After this bone graft op, the next step is to get braces done.
And that's the POWER OF LOVE, Right?  -

You are a wonderful mom, Janet! Give yourself a real 'Hard\" pat on your shoulder back and I am sure your DS will definitely appreciate you. 10 years is a long time, good for you and happy for you that the major part is over.Hi Funx3,

but ranking states as last in class :? . This just seems so unfair & best avoided.
The child whose ranking is last in class though the results are also fantastic has a chance to learn an impt lesson.
Ranking is a cruel practice. But it prevails everywhere. The sooner our child understands and accepts it as part of the system, and not to be too bothered by it, but to set his own target to be a better person, the better it is for the child's sanity.
When my elder boy was promoted to Ch5 from Jo4, his level position was 37. He was also very apprehensive in going to CH5, getting new classmates, perceived more workload, perceived higher expectations from teachers. He had asked if we could write in a request for him not to go to Ch5.
We did not. Instead we had a talk with him - there are always someone who are clever than us. If our life is to be competing against everyone we meet, then it is really a very tiring and sorry life.
During the parents-teachers meeting, we told his FT about our boy's thoughts. His FT also told him to focus on his own targets and to enjoy learning. Once this mental hurdle was overcome, it was an enjoyable learning journey amidst some hiccups here and there. -

Hubby received an SMS from Pei Hwa last night...it seems ALMIGHTY asked interested parents to attend a briefing on 15/11 regarding the change of names for the classes for P5.
My hubby also recd an sms last night. So P3 onwards parents are invited? -

Think likely she will deliver the same msg (aka made up her mind liao), then not much reason to go.
That day you went, did she explain the reason why the proposed change in class names and ranking methodology? How is she implementing the other aspects of remedial lessons, making sure a class size of 40 is taken care of? I hope she has good plans in place, else can be opening up another set of problems. -
we also received the sms. Seems that they already decided to use the new system, and just to inform the parent about it during tomorrow's meeting.
so it will be reflected in the report book on Tue? :? -

Hope your elder ds is better today. Mrs Foo did not keep the parents for very long and she started on time.
Her reason for the proposed change was to improve the morale of the kids. As for the ranking methodology, she felt the abilities of the top 2 classes and the next 2 top classes are similar, so the S-banding was kept to S-80-S-80 instead of S-160. According to her, there is no change in the way kids were S-banded for the remaining classes. Therefore, we did not talk about how remedial lessons would be conducted, so the new set of problems is supposedly non-existent. Teachers will continue to conduct lessons as per normal, using their current procedures.
Btw, she mentioned she put all her BEST teachers in the P6, like her HODs. This is one serious misconception that she has, ya?
