No worries, I understand!Hi Bigfoot,
My son is not in 1F... I want to keep my identity confidential (coz principal and the teachers do read this thread) so I am not saying which class he got into (sorry!).
That being said, we shd all refrain from saying too much... haha...

Review does bring about changes and hopefully improvement. But sad to say, it is very often an Add-On rather than a replacement. I am sure when MOE introduces this program, they have the welfare of the child in mind. Let's hope the teachers won't get burn out too. Cos I understand from the talk that the teachers will be with the students during PAL. Let's just hope that our children can cope with the long hour and won't get burn out. It is our duty as parents to ensure that.
At my workplace, every year end, we have to submit work plans on the reviews we will be conducting the following year (over and above our work). It is not our daily work that affect our career. It is the reviews because it reflects an officer's capability to come out with something and his thinking process. Review often results in new things get added on, without anything being taken away. I just hope this PAL thing is not the result of a scholar's review for his APA and career progression. -

Just my opinion. If I were you, I wouldn't take the chance. I will move. Frankly speaking, MS was not even in my radar when choosing primary school. I was quite sure that with 1km and in phase 2B, the chances of getting into CHS are good. Plus the lowest birth rate in 2004, I keep assuring my wife that our son will have no problem getting into CHS. It was only when the vacancies start disappearing during the earlier phase that I started to panick. I couldn't believe what I see. Luckily I found this Kiasu parents forum and found out that there is another Catholic school (MSH). So I read up more about MSH and realise that even outside the 2km radius, I still have a good chance. So I decided to forgo CHS.hi cherrygal
ya i stay within 1km of CHS. didnt calculate the chance of getting into the sch when i shift house 2yrs ago. just wanted a catholic sch and a gd sch.
but i scared history will repeat and next yr so tough to get into CH again.
to aim for MS at 2b is much higher chance than CH but again, eg if there are 80 vacancies and 81 applicant, u can end up be the only 1 who failed the ballot. so to the individual the chance is either 0 or 100%. i m eligible to sell or sublet my flat next year, so i m wondering if i shd shiift to get a sure plc in MS.
to get a sure plc in MS vs a balloting chance in CH. which better?
if can get in CH of cos better cos i m near my friends,if dont hv to change childcare for #3, dont hv to source nearby tuition centres again, plus my #1 studies at amk, so MS actually is further if i move.
if i stay put, n dont get CH or MS, i dont want to consider Montfort or st gabe whc is far too. might as well just opt for a nearby neighborhd sch. chances wld be GY cos Kuo Chuan wld be gone too by phase 2c supp.
on one hand CH is more more convenient to everyone but if i dont do anythg now that i can to put my child in a gd sch, i wonder if i will regret if end up in schs not of my choice leh.
how?
If u want my opinion, there will definitely be more spillover from CHS next year. I won't be surprise the Phase 2B balloting will get more intense. So to ensure that u dun have to go thru this, moving near MSH is the best bet. But be warned, it is not easy to find a nice HDB flat within 1km. Somemore, for those nice units, chinese are usually not eligible. Better start looking now.

I agree with bigfoot. MSH never had balloting in the past dunno how many years for Phase 2B - but somehow this year they started it!! I always tot the MRT had a part to play in this.... with the MRT being directly outside the school - it just makes it so much more convenient!!

Sorry, since I already revealed that my son is in 1F, I shall not reveal where I am staying to prevent the identification of my son.
Bigfoot you said that the bus company told you your pick up point may be as early as 6am. Where do you stay? I have a friend whose boy is also starting P1 and she said the MSH bus comes about 6.30pm (her neighbour's kid is MSH boy). She lives in the Sin Ming area opp Thomson plaza.
Anyway, u can find out where I stay by reading my previous post. All I can say is it is within 1km of CHS. I dun understand why my son must be pick up by 6am if thomson area can be picked up at 630am. I must check with the driver again. Somehow, I dun trust what he said that day. There were so many ppl and I am sure he had estimated the time in haste. -

Hi kancheong mum,vicki:
Hi, i stay in Tiong Bahru. The bus aunty told me they might do a 6am for my boy!
Hi Vicki, how much did the bus aunty quote you?
The bus aunty refuse to confirm anything other than shouldnt be more than 200 bucks and wont be earlier than 6am.
She say that they will have to consolidate their list first before finalising on anything! So, i got to wait till mid December to find out!! -
Anyone signed up as a parent volunteer during orientation on saturday??
Haha - i told my dh to sign up as a volunteer for guitar playing for Mass n Praise n Worship (those 7am to 730am) slots!! He just gave me THE LOOK!!
Anywas - thinking after the school term start - i will chk it out again and see if anything catches my fancy!! -

The boss (I think he is) told me that we can get a full refund if we find the timing too early. Book first so that he can plan the route. -

My DW and I decided to be a low profile parents first. Afterall, we dun have the luxury of time even if we want to volunteer. Sigh...Anyone signed up as a parent volunteer during orientation on saturday??
