I really pity you. I went through something like this before. My FIL will act generous by not letting us accept gifts and even made us return the money given by his relatives from Taiwan for my MIL's funeral. :faint: Every amount collected from the funeral was donated to charity while every son had to contribute towards the cost of the funeral.
I just don't understand why these people like to act generous using other's money. If it was their own $$, will they be doing the same thing? They are just a bunch of hypocrites :x -

Living with IL's have pros and cons, but given a choice i rather stay on our own.
My MIL is quite irritating,Opps!! I will go to the study after dinner to surf the net or guide my son in his studies...she will pop her head into the room every 5 mins and watch what we are doing. Why does she need to do that :?
Say my DS fat and i restrict his diet, on the other hand..she feeds him supper. I told her off nicely and she got upset. She sometimes drives my DH mad too..
MY FIL is nice man...very understanding. He knows that I am irritated by my MIL and sometimes just tell my MIL to 'let go'. She will get all upset again...shed tears ....
Not because of the convenience of my boy staying near school and having someone to look after him when I am travelling...i really wouldnt encourage anyone to stay with ILs. -

There was once I remembered, me & dh were away in M'sia for a cpl of days, when we came home, MIL told us her dd & SIL came to stay :x :x . See? My hse has bcome a hotel!!! :x :x :x . **Suka suka come, suka suka go** :x :x . & some more enjoy free aircon, free bath & free food! :x...grrr.....grrrrrr...grrr :x

It’s not advisable to have a clash with her…so the best thing is to keep arms length. This way, life is sweeter…‘hi’ and ‘bye’ once a while since it’s not ever possible to have any conversation other than the weather. Any more than that, she will get on my nerves.

Thankfully, all is well so far. My bro's gf does not like my bro 'sponging off' me all the time so she's voiced out that he will take turns to pay when we go out. So, she took us out to Universal Studios the other day.
I think it takes alot of effort to maintain a relationship.
DILs can put in alot of effort but if MIL don't put in the same amount of effort, then DIL like banging the wall.
As a DIL, I put in my effort but I bang my head. Still banging but what to do? Just continue lor. At least I only need to see them on *IMPORTANT OCCASIONS*. And they conveniently forget my existence, so, a pat on my back! -
