Lakesidemum, you are right about Rulang. The chances of getting into Rulang this year under phase 2C for <1km was 1:3. Even SQ balloted for <1Km under phase 2C. Scary rite?

I opted for SQ because I would like to have the sch near to our home so I am not willing to take the risk of balloting in Rulang.

Maybe yqyq and Adetan can comment on SQ since they both have kids already studying in SQ.

      lakesidemum:
hi, my boy will be registering for P1 next year, I am thinking if I shld register him to SQ. My hubby is an ex-student there, hence my boy will be registering under phrase 2a2 (I think). However, my hubby prefer Rulang. We are staying within 1 kim to both schools.

The chance of getting into Rulang under Phrase 2c is very slim. If cannot manage to get into Rulang, SQ will also be out too by then for us.

Can anyone pls advise me? Is SQ a good school? How is the envt there? Are the teachers dedicated and patient? Any good exposure for the kids there?

      Really appreciate any advice.

      Thank you in advance.

Hi jon00, I have bought everything(book, uniform, school bag) on that day too. πŸ™‚

        jon00:
Couple of books are printed this year, so better find out if there are any changes in the content. I bought everything including the optional items. When my girl took out one one the optional book (the one re-published in 2010 by Longman), she turned to the solar system page, and we realised that the book still consider Pluto as a planet which is no longer valid anymore  , I guessed they never do a thorough review before re-publishing.

Does anyone know if all Pri sch use the same textbooks?
        yqyq:

[quote=\"swallow\"]Does anyone want to sell the PI text book?
Looking for 2nd hand text book for my DD who would be going to P1 next year.

        Hi Swallow,

Mostly SQ using My Pals textbook, but yesterday I saw from Popular, seems change cover of the textbooks...but contents not so sure lah...just in case your DD missed out smtg if not the latest version... πŸ˜„

me too, sad to hear that Mr Tsu is going to leave Shuqun.

Hope the new principal as good as Mr Tsu.

          jon00:
          Adetan,
Thanks for the information. Mr Tsu announced his departure during the P1 orientation last Sat. I have pretty good impression of him, so kinda sad to see him leaving SQ even before my girl starts her journey in SQ.
          yqyq:

Ya..Mr. Gary Tsu is really a great principal and communicator. Hope new principal is able to lead SQ to greater height.... πŸ™
          [quote=\"Adetan\"]Latest news!

New Principal is taking over Mr Gary Tsu. He is leaving Shuqun in Mid Dec. Ms Geetha Doraisamy fm Blangah Rise Primary will be taking over. She was with Blangah Rise for 7 years as Principal too.

Hope she is as good as Mr Tsu.

Mr Tsu is with Shuqun for 7 years and he is going to Wellington Primary.

Sad to hear that he is going to leave Shuqun.

I still have a girl in P4 this year. My son just sat for the PSLE this year.

I believe a good and great leader play an important role in the school.

Let's pray hard to have an excellent and good new Principal. Cheers!

hi, thanks for post. Hence did you ballot for SQ then?

Really looking forward to some comments from parents with kids there already.

Actually, pretty worried about change of new principals... Do hope the new one is a good one.

              Hi Swallow,

It was a hush hush day for me that morning. My wife was in Bali enjoying the sun, the sand and the sea with her company (company trip) so I need to handle everything. First, I kept thinking that the orientation starts at 930am, so I let the kids slept in a little later. I decided to check the programs at around 815am and realised the program starts at 9am  , and here it went:

              1. Woke up my girl. Rushed to wash up, and take quick breakfast.
              2. Son woke up and cried cos dis not want to stay with helper at home.
              3. No choice, brought everyone to the school.
              4. Reached SQ around 850am.
              5. Sat through the parents briefing but son kept asking \"daddy, why so slow?\"...got cranky but refuse to go back with helper.
              6. Finally convinced him to go back with helper.
              7. Parents program ended, went to the classroom to fill in form.
              8. Getting late for the 2 kids' music classes.
              9. Forget how to write girl's name in Chinese
              10. Told the teacher-n-charge I will come back later to fill in the chinese name cos got to rush.
              11. Rushed home, asked helper and son to wait at carpark.
              12. Rushed to music class.
              13. Music class ended, rushed back home, picked up the BC and rushed back to SQ. It was 1230pm. The Admin guy in the office helped me to retrieve the form and I got the chinese name filled in πŸ™
              14. Went over to book counter and hurried to get those books. They were packing up for the day but it was cash payment 😒 . Asked them to wait while I rushed to the nearest ATM to get cash. Rushed back, paid and try my luck in the uniform counter. Recommended to have my girl around to try the fitting but......finally, they told me they will be there again in Dec..phew!

What type of school bag are they selling? I am looking for those ergonomic type.

                Hi Lakesidemum,

Yes, balloting at phase 2C. Although the chances were pretty high relative to Rulang, it was still a nerve wracking experience. I think only 8 or 9 kids got balloted out. It helped that our girl is a Singapore citizen.

The school bag we bought is PB - ergonomic backpack, cost $29.90 only. This ergonomic backpack is designed based on a NTU/NIE Biomechanics Research Study and field tested in selected schools under MOE.

We too do not wish to take the risk...so SQ will be our 1st choice at that moment, as Rulang definitely out as we 1-2 kms, another nearest is Lakeside (but I prefer SQ over Lakeside).

My DD was the last 5 to call out during balloting..I almost burst..hehe..paiseh πŸ˜‰

She enjoyed her P1 there..she was P1C3 and next year will be P2C3. Hopefully her P2 Form teacher as dedicated as her P1 teacher. πŸ™

                        Thanks for the link.
Din know an ergonomic schoolbag cost only <$30. Just last week, I saw 2 bags thrown in a rubbish bin (1 pink and 1 blue) but not sure what brand they were. I thought it was still in pretty good condition, such a waste.

                        yqyq,
I can imagine that . During my Pri sch days, a lot of us carried the kaki green sling bag
