Hi Brenda,

Just to add on, the T score must be 250, then u can use the hmt right?

Hi all, want to check for a friend what are the advantages of doing HCL for PSLE vs normal Chinese? Heard there are 2 bonus points to add to T-score if HCL? What are the criteria to get the 2 bonus points?

        Thanks.

Mark Range for Higner Mother Tongue

        Distinction ≥ 80 } Awarded 3 marks
        Merit 65 – 79 } Awarded 2 marks
        Pass 50 – 64 } Awarde 1 mark
        Ungraded < 50

The above mark can add to T-score when you applying SAP School
Hi Leanne

What I know was a friend's ds last year t-score 239, with added 3 marks (distinction) accepted by Nan Hua.

Another friend's dd t-score 238 without taking HCL went to Chung Cheng High (main). She was invited for a test, if test ok then can chose the HCL.

So does it mean that t if one does not intend to apply to SAP school or think that one's T-score may not be that high (not sure what is the cut off, is it 230 or 200 etc?) then, one can seriously consider to drop Higher Chinese to avoid spending a lot of time on the subject for PSLE?

I think taking HCL is definite good as it helps to train pupils to write a more in depth CL Compo. It’s a long term benefit even not plan to go to any SAP school.

Usually the school will recommend base on the P4 CL result and also the other 3 subjects’ performance.

                  Hi Brenda,

Can check with you for yu wen yun yong, which assessment books is good?

Have you bought the 2010 top school past year paper?

                  Cheers
So far the weaker area dd done was CL compo. However I'm still happy that she was ranked no. 18 in the School Level of CL may be due to she did quite well in CL P2. Plan to let her read most CL story books (xiao mao ri ji etc) as I find this is the better way to improve in the CL Language. One book contains about 17,000 CL words.

So far, my son's CL compo tends to be not too bad. Marks usually 30+. But then he would not do well in the other sections and end up the overall mark not so great. :x

sigh - i asked him if he needs chinese tuition, but this one he keeps hemming-hawing about.

DD CL compo. is very weak. Lucky other Section did well otherwise :faint:
RI/RGS doesn't consider HMT!

It's simple - the HMT points can only be used for SAP schools

                      Hi Phanko,

                      Thanks for info.

I think with hmt, can be quite useful, esp if in sec , one take hmt and when comes to JC, there is some advantage in the points.

                      Cheers

If it's in your child's aptitude and interest, then yes - go for HMT.

We didn't allow our 2 older children to do HMT, but our 3rd has great interest in Chinese culture, so there he is doing HMT.
