I agree with you it's very disheartening to see marks being refused by teachers...hubby found it hard to accept. We thought he could at least get a mark since he chose the correct option, but his teacher said no, bcos it is part of the question...as long as he did not make any comparisons, he is not entitled...then she added, 'PSLE standard'. What can we say ? Nothing.
The pupils are taught to make comparison in P3 Science. But how to see if the qn needs comparison? I dun think this is taught. So I told my boy as long as there are more than 1 object/pic/setup, etc, pls make a comparison. He lost a few marks in this recent SA2 too due to this. -

For HMT, 39/50 isn't bad at all even at P3 level.
I thought so too. Esp for this SA2 paper 2. The 2 types of OE compreh has each a \"What will u do/What do u think\" qns which I personally feel is kinda of tough for a P3 to word out his/her thoughts. -

Janet, I am sorry that your ds has to learn the hard way. It has been marked this way for many years already. The reason why the first part answer was not accepted was because the child (not specifically your ds) could 'guess' the answer to that first part, without fully understanding the question, his concept might still be flawed. Thus, credit cannot be given to the child. The second part of the question is to assess the child's understanding of the concept tested for this question, therefore, if the child is able to explain scientifically, full marks will be awarded. -

The P2s are already answering such questions for CL OE Compre. That's why I started letting my dd be exposed to these types of questions as early as possible. -

This is a good idea. For science, mind-mapping is a good tool to remember the concepts. -

As long as yr kid’s grade does not fall below B2 in his/her weakest subject there is no cause for concern. Let the school adopts the strictest marking standard and bears with it for the next few years. Your duty is to encourage and motivate yr child.
During PSLE annoucement day, you and yr child will be smiling all the way to the dream school. -

Agree...there was actually no 1st part or 2nd part of the question...it is just one question and there must be a reason to support why that particular item was chosen over the other. We weren't pushing to get the 2 marks but it would have been a bonus if the teacher agreed. Anyway, this is indeed a good opportunity to let him know what PSLE standard is all about...accuracy and to the point.janet_lee88:

Jennifer, may I know which question are you talking about? Trying to understand what you mean by comparision.janet_lee88:

Went to Popular to get the text books yesterday. There were other parents there as well and all of them were from PH. :lol:Hi parents,
Next year's books will be ready for pre-order from the website tomorrow according to Pacific book store.
The published prices at Popular are about the same plus you get a 5% discount if got membership. the only thing is that you can't get those books or exercise books specific to PH. -
Science textbooks do not teach students how to answer…neither do teachers, yet students must know.
Take the example of Maglev train in Interaction (magnets)…it doesn’t appear in the textbook but in newer Science publications from SAP, it is common.
E3,
I bought the ‘Jazz up your writing’ you recommended. It’s helpful, thanks.
