Little Skool House

Hi lhy686,
My child is 2.5 yrs old now so he will be enrolled in N1 next year.
My hubby and I both lilked the place. We liked the food menu as they use natural food and not processed food. Moreover, we are quite delighted to know that they baked their own pastry as well.
I was quite skeptical about the curriculum as I am not sure how beneficial & effective a literature based curriculum is. However, I do like that there are lots of hands on activity and a lot of the times they teach through playing.
I agree it’s not cheap but I have looked at the other choices around that neighbourhood and it seems to be a better choice.
Another school is opening at mountbatten square. So I’m gonna check it out too. -
Hi both
My son is 18 mths old and I live in Geylang so yeah LSH Mountbatten has the perfect location! Unfortunately we tried and it’s not suitable for our kid. The school seems chaotic during bath, meal time, i think just too many kids. Maybe my boy is the active sort so definitely cannot fit into the environment where the kids were jus made to sit still.
lhy686, may I know how much is half and full day for Lorna Winston after subsidy?
Have you guys heard of Cherie Hearts knowledge Xplorer at Katong?
Thanks. -
Hi Partyof5,
My child is also very active. How do they make your child sit still? Do you think the teachers scream & shout at the children? What I was told by the principal is that they have a No Shouting & Screaming rule for the teachers. -

Heehee, so if we were to enrol our kids together, they should be in the same class!
Ya, I'm also unsure of the curriculum, but then again, i guess we'll have to try out before knowing.
I saw from outside the ChildFirst@Mountbatten Sq. Seems vibrant and interesting. But I'll need to start my boy from next week, so that option will be out for me since they're not opened yet. -

Ah! I went during their bath, meal time actually. Actually the situation seems to be almost the same everywhere i went. I find it still controllable and alright to me. 2 teachers were with the kids who are having lunch, and another 2 or 3 helping out with the bath. They were friendly to us and my boy as well...that's why impression was quite good.Hi both

My boy is also the super active kind...will run around and jump here and there. I saw the teachers asking the kids to sit down, but definitely not in a harsh or fierce manner...just firm.
Nope, haven't heard of Cherie Hearts knowledge Xplorer at Katong

The teachers / principal will ask the children to sit down in a very firm tone. I saw a teacher walking a few kids over to sit down with the rest as well. But that's just the scene we saw when we were there...not sure if this happens when no parents were around
When me and hb were there, we didn't hear the teachers shout nor scream. It's more like a louder voice with firm tones coz the centre is really busy with kids having lunch, bathing etc...so the teachers will understandably need to raise their voices to be heard. -
Hi lhy686,
I guess the teachers will need to raise their voices to be heard. As long as they don’t scream at e children, it shld b fine.
Our kids will b in e same class if we both enroll! So you must decide by this week? Hope you can find the school you like. I have been pondering for a long time. -
My DS1 has been attending Little Skool-House On-the-Green at Orchid Country Club in Yishun since N1 for their 3/4 hr programme. He is in K2 now.
I don’t have many comments about the curriculum. I think it’s pretty much standard. The academics aren’t so important to me at this stage, as long as they cover the basics, and I think they have. My boy has learnt how to read and write both Chinese and English, do simple math etc. They do show and tell from quite early, and get introduced to spelling and ting xie in the last term of K2. of course, I will only really find out when he enters P1 next year! But, he only spends 3 - 4 hours a day at kindergarten, and a lot more time with me, so I don’t expect the school to perform miracles. The most important thing, from an academic perspective, is that he loves to learn, and enjoys going to school.
What I appreciate most are the wonderful teachers and staff, the environment, the focus on physical activity.
The turnover rate for the staff is not high. I don’t have the figures, this is purely by observation - you see the same faces for a few years…you get to know them, and they get to know you. This stability helps because the younger kids get very affected when their teachers change. The admin staff and teachers are very approachable, and they are quite happy to have you observe the class from outside the classroom (through the glass windows). You can tell they really care for the kids and are able to control the kids quite well. I wouldn’t say they never raise their voices at the children, but I raise my voice at home to get my kids’ attention, and I only have two to worry about…I’ve not noticed them yelling or speaking harshly. I can say all this with some confidence as I am quite a control freak mum and I used to spend hours hiding outside the classroom watching DS1 in class. I also do the school run, so I still get to see quite a lot of what happens in school.
I like the environment and the focus on physical activity - I suppose they have an advantage being located at OCC so they can take advantage of the facilities here. The have outdoor walks, outdoor playground time, indoor playground time (there’s an indoor playscape at the club, co-located with the younger kids’ classrooms), pool days etc. Even the classrooms are quite spacious so they have some freedom of movement. It’s great for kids to be able to play, and learn on the go rather than be stuck in the classroom all day. And my boy is very active, so it really suits him.
They also have lots of excursions and they learn so much on these trips, and they like to involve parents in activities, e.g making tang yuan, moon cakes, mother’s day picnics etc.
I don’t know about the other LSH schools. I think it could be hard to maintain consistency across so many outlets, especially since many of these are acquisitions. But the LSH at OCC gets a massive thumbs up from me. I would have sent my DS2 there as well, but we have moved much further out from Yishun and it will not be practical to continue doing the 45min round trip for the next 3 years.
Hope this helps! -
Hi MummyThreeStreams,
Wow thanks for such a comprehensive feedback on LSH.
Haha if only I am staying in Yishun, the LSH@OCC will be a good choice.
Guess at the end of the day, it really boils down to the teachers & e principal. -

Hi Jocelyn,Hi Jocelyn,
Do you mind sharing with us what are the problems you faced with LSH?
I would like to know more on the problem at LSH AMK. Please pm me ?
Thanks,
