ADVICE FOR MY BOY
-
Hi all kiasu parents
  I have just returned to Singapore
I have a son who previously studied at Senior High School 1 in Surabaya,
so he'll be a returning singaporean i think...
He supposed to attend sec 3 next year.
However, because of our
sudden move in the end of the year, i'm afraid he will not cope well with the english especially.
furthermore, there will be streaming in the end of sec 2 .
So I think it will be better for him if he sits in Sec 2 next year.
BUT..
If it's like then he will be looked bad..
all senior high school 1 indonesian students who move to singapore will directly go to sec 3 after a half-month preparation in languge centre.
Moreover, going back to sec 3 has been a level downward. So, if
my son will study in sec 2, he will be 2 level downwards.
I'm afraid universities and schools will think it as a bad things.
BUT actually it is not. It's because our sudden move.
My major concern if he sits in sec 3 directly is:
-His O level score (especially in english) will be mediocre
-he can't excel in his cca or do HMTL
-HE WILL BE LIMITED IN HIS STREAMING and it'll affect his JC
But, if he do sit in sec 2:
-he'll be able to transfer, but when they look at his educational background... :stupid: :!:
-EDUCATIONA BACKGROUND will be abit distracting especially
for university/jc admissions..
How should we do? Please advise us... I'm a confused and bewildered
singaporean really... hope my son as ell
HOPE God help me:)
Thanks -
well, you did say that your DS is smart.
so why not let him face the challenge instead of \"giving up\" without first putting up a fight.
Of course, please do help him by supplementing with appropriate English enrichment classes. Perhaps something more intensive within these few weeks.

Thanks for your very gentle advice :d
I mean he is diligent.
I am very afraidβ¦
Itβs too risky for usβ¦
There are many things to learn in language
Iβm afraid it canβt be learnt by one or two months. Itβs progressive afterall.
Furthermore it is about skill. Iβm
Still worried.
He has just been having home tuition.
For a starter like him, I think
One-by-one will be better right?
Anyway, can you recommend me english books for vocab, comphre, etc? Thx -
Thanks for your reply :).
Actually there is a little bit different.
If my son goes to second 2, he has 2 year downwards. Indonesian students in senior high school 1 or has completed junior high school 3, supposed to second 3 because they could not go to second 4. So, if he goes to second 4 it will be 2 years downward.
Secondly, how if in second 2 end he participates in second 3 sji or other school entrance exam for returning or local singaporean. Will he be disadvantaged because of this case? How if he apply to university? Thx -
There are many Indonesian scholars who come to Singapore and enter the sec 3 level with not much problem. And they take HML for their MT subject. Other than Indonesians, there are PRC, Vietnamese, Thai and many many many students of other nationalities who come here and enter sec 3. Most are able to cope with it. So I donβt think itβs necessary for you to let your son go down a level, unless the school specifically requires you to do so. I know schools like RGS will request some of their students to enter a year down if they want to be admitted into the school.

Thanks for your reply.
You seem know very well about it. Are you experienced in this kind of situation? Can you suggest me how the best to prepare my son?
Can you also tell me their (scholars you mentioned) experience?
How can they take HML in sec 3? How can they get atmitted to RGS?
Please :?: :?: :?: I really have no idea about it :stupid: :stupid:
I assume they do can do well because they have prepare it months before the new term start. My son has just started to prerare on the middle of this month.
Please help me evreyone. :celebrate: :celebrate:
I'm very stressed about it.
Thx -
hi evryobody
i'm really really in dillema
Please help mE :?: -
hi i think it is best that you consult the principal of that school you want your child to enrol in. maybe the principal could offer better solutions

of course, tuition and enrichment should not be neglected, it is always better to have a headstart. maybe you can try out krtc@marine parade? they are quite experienced in dealing with such cases. they might be able to offer you some opinion on your child's difficult position -

hi guys thanks for your reply...
bear in my mind I don't know where he will be posted to right now.
Is it a good idea to discuss it with the headmaster?
Is that true you cannot active in CCA in sec 3?
Is that true that if you apply to uni, my son will be disadvantaged
if he goes to sec 2?
To twilight:
i have checked and just replied your email :):)
Thanks for your BIG help
