Hi, this is my first topic so if I post wrongly please forgive me 🙂

Anyways, my son is going to HCI next year and I would need some help as the title might suggest. Well can you guys like tell me if your child like suffers from an emotional breakdown after the last day of school? 'Cuz that's what happened to my son, he came back from school the other day with tears rolling down his cheek.

Without asking I knew what happened, he is very obedient and doesn't get into fights or anything so I know he's probably sad and all but is this NORMAL??? I dunno, like before the PSLE he was all like

      \"OHHH WHY WON'T SCHOOL END\" and now he's like

      \"OHHH WHY IS SCHOOL ENDING\".

I would appreciate if you guys could help this dad in need. I've asked him and tried to talk to him but almost every night I hear him sobbing in bed 😢 and my wife is also very worried but we don't know what to do. Please help! 🙏

It’s a normal transition. Normally there are two parts to it.

        1. Something that was a constant in his life is now ending.

        2. Something unknown is about to start.

What will happen is that as he gets more distant from the first thing, and as he gets more immersed in the second thing, the ‘emo-ness’ will go away and be replaced by a different kind of ‘emo-ness’.

What’s needed is to just let him talk about it to you. Ask him what his fondest memories of primary school life are, and why. Ask him what he thinks will be different (and maybe unsettling) about secondary school life. Don’t laugh at him, but don’t be too serious either. Be supportive. It’s a lot like changing jobs, can be traumatic and needs family support.

hi… my son also felt what your son feels right now…

When I did like what autolycus said…
he told me that what he bothered the most were:
            (1) He will miss his friends, teachers ==> he didn’t
want to get separated from them
            (2) He was afraid that the new system of the school
would be stricter and harder than the system of his previous school
            (3) He was scared he would not have friends and teachers as amiable as he had had in his previous school

I suggest you calm him down and suggest your experience you had once
you were in his position. It worked for my son (at least he felt far
better), dunno if it will work for your son. It really depends on
            childs’ charasteristic

Hope he will feel better and better. What the most important thing is
not to let him to be discouraged and oppresed.

            Peace,
            Kyakia

                Hi requimrar,

Very glad and happy to hear that your son did feel better..

He might be abit down for a while, but if you give support and help,
I think your son will be strong..

Being a growing teenager is not easy :).
So is being a parent of a teenager..
                There will be many problems
Keep support and guide him from far...
hope the best for your son :celebrate:

                Thanks

Well... I should probably make him an FB a/c? A lot of his friends have accounts but I'm worried with all the FB spam and safety thing... :?

When the PSLE was going on for me, I could not wait for school to get over. After the PSLE though, I felt like, something that had always been there, and was second nature to me, was going away from e and there was nothing I could do about it. Everyone goes through that.

It's a normal feeling. Nothing to worry about 🙂
