      JCCT:
Hi, I am considering NCPS for my boy. Was wondering for parents with kids already there, how do you find the principal and teachers in the school on the whole? Do they push alot just on academic results or do they care for the development of the student as a whole person in all aspects? Appreciate any useful feedback. Tks

Also, i'm not sure if its too late for me to join the SHHK now if my son is born in 2006.
There's no exam for P1 but bite-size assessments half the time. For DS' class, quite a lot of homework during weekends. His teachers r quite caring.
U might 1 2 check w SHHK on the cut-off date for their next meeting for new membership.

I also signed up for both the 10-day english & chinese enrichment courses. There are also many weekend prog when school starts. Any parents actually let your child attend such CCA from P1? I like many of the prog (like badminton, wushu, arts etc) but timing seems to clash with each other and add up to be quite expensive. Any advice if I should let my son to go for such things at P1? I also heard that for badminton, if don't join from P1, they won't accept when at P3. Is that true? Tks.

The pt is not to let ur kids join too many activities until no time for family & homework during weekends. 😉
I hv friends who send their P1 kids to 1 of these activities & add 1 more when they r in P3 while I prefer DS to continue taking wushu from our RC as timing & venue r more convenient for us.

My neighbour just signed her P3 DS up for intermediate badminton this yr, as the beginner class clashes w his other activity. The coach tested him 1st to c if he can cope w the intermediate training.

For P1, any idea when will we get the student pass and time table? I actually expected it to be on orientation day today, 22 Nov.
Time table will b out on the 1st few days of sch. There shld b another letter closer to date on what to bring on 1st day.

Think DS got his student pass only in May or July. The sch will arrange the kids to take pix in sch when the time comes.

My son likes choir but was told that Primary 3 then have , they have to be selected too for them to be under school CCA. I believes those students under CCA is for those What so call for BEST Students only. :?
I think it's quite common to have auditions for CCAs that require some skills/aptitude. I saw the choir performance recently, they r quite good w their own P3 pianist but only a handful r boys. 🙂

DS is v v keen on the Maths & Science club but also hv to wait till P3. 😎

Which RC you referring to? I'm under Sengkang West Zone 'A' but there's no Wushu classes. I only let my son attend the 3G Abacus in that RC on every Thu night at $150 for 10 lessons. I think I'll continue for convenience instead of NCPS's one.

For your neighbour, does his P3 DS joined the badminton class since P1? If not, they do take in at P3 for beginner class? Tks!

Ok, i will look out for the letter. But I dun understand why the pass comes so late. I know it's also Ezlink card right? So at the meantime, I need to get one for him? How to prove he's a primary student?

According to a parent whose children is already studying in the school. The test conducted on our kids on orientation day was to assess whether they are on par with the rest. Usually if there is a letter to recommend to attend certain courses, it means the child is weaker on that subject.

DD is already taking ballet now. I’ve checked with her whether she wld like to take up dancing in school. She wasn’t keen and prefer to continue to follow her teacher at Dancepointe.

                Parents,
                1. For a start, how much shld we give our kids as pocket $. Especially since the kids recess are already covered?

                2. Do we need to give them a phone card?

                3. Do we need to pack in all the 1st semster books?

                4. Stationary: pencils, eraser, ruler, color pencils… anything else?

                5. was there a handbook in our booklist or given on 1st day of school?

And just thinking if we want to get to know each other better. My DD is in Class 1G.

The cards needs time to be made (plus the photos must be submitted by school).
Usually during first 3 months there will still be movement of studens so some schools prefer not to submit the application then (as it's troublesome if the student transfers in/out).

Also, the EZ Link office needs to handle ALOT of applications during that period of time:
                    1. P1 (Jan - Mar)
                    2. S1 (Jan - Mar)
                    3. JC1 (Jan - Mar)
                    4. Poly Year 1 (Apr - May)

From past experience, the class allocated to your child during orientation may not be his actual class when the school reopens. Usually, parents will receive another letter from school sometime in Dec.

The accessment given during orientation is to identify pupils who may be weak in reading, therefore, only pupils who have difficulty in reading will receive a letter to suggest that they take up phonics during the Dec holidays.

My DS is in 1C class during the orientation, but when I asked him how is the classroom’s activities, he just kept quiet and he seems bored and did not enjoy himself.

Furthermore he is very poor in chinese and can’t really talk well in chinese and I wondered why he wasn’t given an advise to attend the HYPY camp…

Can anyone share what are the activities in the classroom of 1C, pls?
