      Hi mums and dads,

Two schools that I have shortlisted in BP are BPPS and Beacon. Beacon is nearer and I know the govt is pumping in $$ for IT as it is the future school. However, BPPS has a proven track record. I am prepared to be a PV in either one but I have not made up my mind yet. The only setback of Beacon is that it doesn't have any PSLE results and I am not sure whether all the technology and gadgets they are using can adequately prepare the kids for PSLE. Any input from you? I am due to register in 2011 as my child will be in P1 in 2012.
Assuming you have the same chance of getting into either school, go for BPPS as your first choice. Otherwise, go for the one which you have a better chance of getting into (eg. distance-wise).

I am a PV in Beacon so here is my 2 cents worth. From what I have seen about the teachers, pricipal and vp at Beacon I have liked so far. They seem to be quite committed to the children and since this is the second batch here, seem to know all the kids by names.

BPPS is more well known and till Beacon that was my first choice. But BPPS will surely go for balloting for < 1 km in 2C, so unless you are a PV there, there is a very slim chance that you get in. Beacon last year had no balloting for 2C, but did not take in any children beyond 1 km. Also I know that from this year 2010 intake there are many siblings coming in and so balloting for 2C seems to be a distinct possibility.

If you have any q about Beacon, you can PM me, I'll be happy to answer.

              another one....here goes...

              http://www.glitter-graphics.com stephlam,

              Have you read http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3311????

              ChiefKiasu:
              5. If you have specific queries about a particular school, first, find out which Area the school belongs, and then go to the following Forum threads to post your questions:
              http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=486

              6. Please do NOT start a new thread in this Forum asking for opinions about a specific school, or comparing across a number of schools. You are welcome to post your queries in the Area threads as listed above, which also have a poll that gives you an indication of what people think of the schools in the Area. We need to keep this particular Forum clean and tidy to make it easier for everyone, including yourself, to look for information and opinions about the schools.
http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=438&start=0 should help too. Please take the time to go through the threads and do searches before posting. TQ

              Welcome to KSP though. 😎

Chief, I suggest instead of merging, just change these threads to Newbie's thread since they are newbies....

Oooh... jedamum's into torching newbies now :!: - remember, I like mine extra crispy. The problem with moving them into the newbie's forum would be that if they get useful replies from the community pertaining to the schools, then that info could be lost to the more law-abiding people who post, read and search in the proper way 🙂

                stephlam, welcome to KiasuParents.com 🙂 .

i’m torn between BPPS and Beacon…love the IT aspect in Beacon but also skeptical…Wanted to try for BPPS but worried about the balloting part and if my kids can cope with the school work. The only feedback I heard about Beacon is that one of my gf’s child actually had migrain problem and the doc was saying it could be due to the fact that he faces the computer for too long hours…any verification to this?

                        Hi preciousjam,

I'm a PV at Beacon and my kids will be going there from Jan.

Here is what I know about Beacon and BPPS. A year ago I was in your shoes, torn between Beacon and BPPS. Here is what I learnt. The teachers at Beacon are very passionate and the pricipal and VPs are very hands on. I was told that computers start from Term2/3 for P1 and they still have a lot of emphasis on old fashioned writing and reading.

This year BPPS has further cut their intake. It was 360 in 2008, 300 this year and next year's cohort will only be 240. Given that half of their seats go to siblings, I am not too sure of how many seats will be available for the other phases, maybe 2C within 1 km will also go for ballotting. So unless you are eligible for an earlier phase or stay within 1 km of BPPS, I think it's a better idea to have an alternative school in hand.

If you want anything else about Beacon, let me know and I'll let you know. They are having an open house on 11 July from 9-12, so maybe you can go and have a look.
