Travel: Malaysia - Cherating

:goodpost: mrswongtuition!!! :celebrate:I went to Cherating some years back with hb.
We did not stay in Club Med due to the price (I think it was around $500+ per person). I was still a student then & we were looking for budget holiday.
We stayed at The Legends Cherating. Nice place & as we went during monsoon season, we had the whole place to ourselves. We arranged to private tour guide to bring us around & we had loads to see! We went to the tribal village, then the waterfalls & went to watch turtles!
Total cost incurred during the whole trip including my shopping at Kuantan: S$600. Much cheaper than staying at Club Med
We went into Club Med premise to 'recce' & liked it, but at that time, it was out of our budget. Now, we may take a trip up with my boy if time permits
I'll check out Legends for sure.
Yes, it is still over $2k for CM Cherating now...
At least, it's the total for my family of 4, & not
inclusive of the membership of $60 X 4 yet!!!
You've definitely made my decision to go there
even way stronger than before. We've been to
Bintan many times over da years... almost like
2nd home... but never @ Club Med Ria Bintan..
mostly due to the high costs. So, wudn't mind
a CM getaway but definitely not in Bintan.
Thank you once again!
Your review is much much appreciated!

PS : Can share more on the monsoon period part?
Is late November / early December considered yr
end?

Yet another fantastic review! It is monsoon period in east coast m'sia during year end. The sea is rough and often heavy rain.
We have been to both CM Bintan & Cherating. We took a CM Cherating coach package (4D3N). The journey was long & bumpy, and slow because at a few parts of the journey, the coach was following long trailers which transport big tree trunks. Not only that, we had to assemble at Newton Circus at 6am to board the coach. We got to Cherating about 1 to 2pm.
CM Cherating has sailing which Bintan doesn't offer. For golfers, CM Bintan can arrange for you to play at Ria Bintan which is just next to CM and the course is scenic. You have to pay separately to Ria Bintan.
If you have young kids below 2 yrs old, there is a petite club membership which you have to pay and CM will babysit for you including feeding your todlers. We enjoyed everything at CM - the food, activities, facilities, nite entertainment put up by their GRO.
:goodpost:
Given me a few serious stuff to consider as well.
I have 2 kids not so young... about 8yrs and 6yrs.
Yes, i've heard that the food is free flow and also
the activities and spa. My friends were saying that
once they stepped in, the staff gladly took their 4
kids away whisking them off for age-appropriate
activities, leaving them stunned with so much free
time to plan for.
They got used to it by the
2nd day and relished all the couple time they could
get before their stay ended. The kids enjoyed their
time on their own so much, they didn't even had the
need to call on their parents..
Is membership transferable or private limited kinda
policy? -

I don't encourage driving up unles you are Malaysian and familiar with the small roads leading into Kuantan, then Cherating.bigfoot:

The roads are small and narrow with many big trucks speeding.
Very unlike roads in SG, so it's best not to drive up unless you are very familiar driving in such roads. Even my hubs who is a very experienced driver dare not drive up.
When we took the coach up, we were rather scared cos there were alot of big trucks going past us (seems like very near cos the road is so narrow).
If you can afford, take the plane

I thought it is monsoon session now?
Will have lesser outdoor activities if it rains. -
Thanks for the advise. I am comfortable in driving up. Just worried about being caught in flooded areas. It seem like I may have to book air tickets. Which airport? Pahang? Just checked firefly website and there is no tickets on the day I’m suppose to check in. Can only book one day before check in. Meaning I may end up having to book for one more night of accomodation in cherating. sigh…

For the small roads leading into Cherating, if there's floods, there might be landslides.
Now's the season to go turtle watching (at night). You can see them come up to shore to lay eggs.
