The students will be there everyday from 8.30am to 6pm to answer any questions and to show you around. Tomorrow is Sat, so I'm not sure if they are available. You can call the school to find out, tel. 64430563. If your son has done better in his prelim, is independent and is motivated to work harder when surrounded by friends better than him, then you should consider putting Temasek as 1st choice and Bedok View as 2nd since his score is 230. There are children who matured later and does better in their Secondary school. Temasek is taking in only 200 Express students this year, I like the small size. Please note also Temasek is Band 3 and Bedok View is Band 8. My son's not a fighter, putting him in a place where most are better than him will not do him good. He can only thrive in an environment where he does not feels threatened. His aspiration is to go into Poly, not JC. If you want your son to go the JC route, Temasek is a better choice. Important thing is you must know your son and what is he comfortable with.[/quote]

      Hi Momise,

I will talk to my son tonight and decide what to do then.

      Thank you so much. 😄

I also went to the NanChiau Open House. Their results has been improving year after year. But the principal who is instrumental in getting the school to its good state, is leaving. Next yr, NCHS will get a new principal My worry is that the momentum may not be the same anymore.

(Just like XinMin whose results seems to be decling in last few years)

        JMHO
        Hi!
The principal's leaving is certainly a valid factor. But when we were at the open house and going around classroom to classroom during the tour, my impression I got is that both teachers and students are full of enthusiasm and remain highly motivated. I think the principal has left a strong foundation and legacy. Plus the fact that the school is turning SAP in 2011 will only serve to give the school a positive push. Hence i believe in this instance, the principal's retirement is not going to be a huge detrimental effect unlike in some other schools.

Unfortunately my child is not interested in Chinese culture. Otherwise this wd hv been a first choice

Hi, my son's 1st choice was Temasek Secondary School (COP230-252). However, his score is only 226. We are living in Bedok, anyone familiar with Bedok View (CPO 218-229) or Bedok South? Any comments on these 2 schools esp Bedok View or any other recommendation for good school in the east that he qualifies for??? In between, should I try for Temasek?

Hi, 226 for Temasek will be tough as the COP may drop by 1-2 marks but not so much. You can try, but high chance your son will not get in. For your info, Temasek's COP for 2009 and 2008 are 302.

When you choose schools, you should not just look at the COP, but should also look at the MEAN and MEDIAN scores. You can get these numbers via the MOE website >> http://app.sis.moe.gov.sg/schinfo/SIS_AdvSearch.asp

Also, you may want to consider the CCAs your son wants to join, and look at which school is good in that CCA.

Some schools I recommend in Bedok.
Bedok Green Sec, Bedok View Sec, Bedok South Sec

Some schools I recommend in Tampines.
Pasir Ris Sec, Tampines Sec, East Spring

Some schools I recommend in Pasir Ris.
Hai Sing Catholic School, Pasir Ris Crest Sec

            Cheers

How about schools in Seng Kang or Punggol??

My girl's result is neither here nor there and she is under the aggregates of those schools that she had wanted. 😢

My nephew study in Greendale Sec (200 range). The current principal is new to the school (i think posted in this year) is formerly from VS, and he has high expectation from the students.

Punggol Sec (< 200 range) has made improvements in their ‘O’ and ‘N’ for past few years. Hence you can consider it too.

There are more schools to choose in Sengkang or even Hougang. If you can let us know your child score, then I can help to recommend.

Why have to look at the MEAN & MEDIAN score?

What so good about SAP school?

Can somebody enlighten me please? :?

Can somebody enlighten me please? :?
Say 5 students get the following score and apply to the same school,
                    Student A - 258
                    Student B - 210
                    Student C - 208
                    Student D - 200
                    Student E - 198

                    Therefore,
                    Lower COP: 198
                    Upper COP: 258

Mean is the average score for all the students. Hence (258+210+208+200+198)/5 = 214.8 (think round up to 215)

Median is the middle score when you arrange the scores from lowest to highest, so for the above case is 208.

Thus if you get 215 and you apply to this school, you are actually consider the top 50% of the cohort.

If you just look at the Upper COP (258) and not the MEAN & MEDIAN, you may think that this is a \"good school\" as student with such high grade also apply. However if looking at the MEAN & MEDIAN, it shows that most students score are not that high after all.

SAP schools were first established in 1979 to preserve the ethos of the Chinese medium schools and to promote the learning of Chinese Language and culture.

171 for normal is consider alright. You can go to many schools with this score. Below are some recommendations, hope the info is useful for you. If you choose Compassvale or Sengkang, do note that most of their NA students score around 180/179, so it can be challenging for your child.

I think there is also a new school in Punggol. You can also consider it too.

                      1) COMPASSVALE SECONDARY SCHOOL ( Mean = 180,\tMedian = 179)
                      2) SENG KANG SECONDARY SCHOOL ( Mean = 179,\tMedian = 178)
                      3) PEI HWA SECONDARY SCHOOL ( Mean = 176,\t Median = 175)
                      4) HOUGANG SECONDARY SCHOOL ( Mean = 174,\tMedian = 173)
                      5) SERANGOON SECONDARY SCHOOL ( Mean = 168,\tMedian = 166)
                      6) GREENDALE SECONDARY SCHOOL ( Mean = 166,\tMedian = 165)
                      7) PUNGGOL SECONDARY SCHOOL ( Mean = 161, \tMedian = 158)

If we list schools with aggregate of 183 and above as 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice, her chance of going will be very very slim right??

If really so, the chance of appeal is also very very slim right??

                        Haiz.... headache! 😢
