All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

hi Cartier,
I was from scgs (sec, not primary) and certainly not lucky enough to belong to the right gene pool. Not everyone from privileged background flaunt their wealth. I rather think that it’s the parents that encourage such lifestyle, not the school.
Honestly I was surprised by what you say cos what I heard is that the principal (during my time) would decline such offers and put such parents at the end of the queue. -

It's good that you addressed my concerns about what I said of my nieces, but I cant deny not acknowledging my friend's tai tai friends' modus operandi to get what they covet. Just a handful of these so called self-branded elitists might have some undue influence to other impressionable children, depending on the individual child's sensibility. I also did not declare blatantly that it's not a good school. I am only sharing with others what I have been told and my friend's friendly coax.hi Cartier,

Maybe 50 years ago use donations to secure a place is rather common.
Guess now the current registration phases should be the best arrangement as at of now.
By the way, anyone know whether the school would issue us PV Certification Letter in order to reg during the Phase 2B period? -

Would you be able to provide me more infor about scgs. I heard alot of other schools but couldn't find any infor about scgs.
Why is it so hard to apply PV ? I've read some article they actually shortlisted 20 PV for last year P1 Registration.
How they select PV? The Principal or some sort of school communitee? -

hi hamster,
Sorry, can’t help here. I graduated from that school more than a decade ago and now have 2 boys. absolutely clueless about their pv program. -
in addition, I guess if they have enough existing resources from alumni and parents of current students, they probably won’t need additional help. Heard that such is the reply given by ACS (P) - from a current parent friend.

The 20 applications you saw in last year Phase 2B may not be PV. If you read the P1 registration phases in MOE website, Phase 2B are for PV, member endorsed by the church/clan directly connected with the school; or whose parent is endorsed as an active community leader. Since they don't take in PV and not connected to church/clan, I think all 20 are active community leaders.

SCGS highly likely you can get in even if you stay > 2km if you have very deeeeeep pocket - can bypass balloting
![/quote]As far as I know, that is not true. In fact the old principal absolutely frowned upon such practices. -
Yes, I agree that the schools in Singapore will not and should not be doing this. The donations accepted should be coming from existing parents who feel they can help the school financially.
