French is optional to include. I didn't. And if you choose for it to include, it is.

i think u are able to. cos my friend has done that!!:?: Hi, Im a Primary 6 student going to Raffles Institution next yr. I'm currently in the midst of choosing my 3rd Language choice. I'm considering taking Japanese as a 3rd Language but I'm not sure if I can cope with my school work
. Is it possible to select a 3rd language 1st then drop out of it ltr if I can't cope with it?
Plz help. I need to submit the S1 form by 2nd December. Thx! -
I chose 1st option as Arab 2nd Chinese 3rd French. I scored 267 & I think I will get to rgs (right?) . Seeing all the posts about students dropping 3rd language after a few months got me kinda scared. I heard that rgs has a lot of projects and stuff and the schedule is very hectic & stressful, any one in rgs who takes 3rd language care to share if it would be very stressful to study another subject on top of all the other stuff you're studying ? i'm not really good at time management & am scared that I wont be able to get enough sleep or to study at night other than doing homework. & when I put Arab as my 1st choice my mum gave me quite a few reasons & i was convinced to take it, now, after reading this thread, I feel unconvinced again -.- can someone tell me like, how Arab might be very useful in life later on ? Thanks(: :celebrate:

As far as I know from my son’s school, one quarter of them will drop 3rd lang by first term. By the end of the first year more than 1/3 will be gone.
After end of 2nd year, it will be consider quite good to have 1/3 left.
School life in the top few IP schoosl is very hetic. Lots of projects and CCA takes up a lot of time, esp, for sports.
If a student wants to take third lang, they really need to know how to prioritise his/her time. Very often, the 3rd lang is neglected as it is only once a week and is not compulsory to be counted in the GPA score.
Furthermore, 3rd lang is a language that the student normally don’t get to use it so often, without discipline, it is going to be an additional chore.
I am not trying to discourage those who wants to choose 3rd lang. By all means, give it a try. Who knows, you may be one of those really gifted in the language and find it very easy to cope with. If not, there is always an option to drop it. -
My dd may want to opt for 3rd language.
Where will the class be held? Is it at those school with Malay Special Program (MSP)? -

I took French as a 3rd language till JC (a long time ago). We had one entire class of 30+ students in my secondary school who were taking French at the beginning of sec 1. Only 7 of us took the O levels. Most of the students dropped out before the end of Sec 1. What kept the 7 of us going when we had the same work-load and CCA and other commitments? A love for the language and culture.
It's not enough to say that the language will be useful in the future. That would be a bonus, but insufficient to keep you going. But if you enjoy the language and have close friends learning and practising with you, then you can go far.
Arabic is a very difficult but amazingly beautiful language (so I am told). It represents a rich culture too. If you are prepared to learn more about the language and the culture of the Arabic world, you will find your life enriched.
By the way, I don't have much use for my rusty French nowadays, but I still love the language! -

But French is very hard to learn.
Coz it starts with \"Le...\" or \"La...\"
Words are difficult to pronounce.
:? The best is not to choose French.

Le and la actually means \"the\" in english. Le is for males, la is for females.ooptimizer:

Hello all,
I scored 255 for my PSLE, and i have put French as my first choice for a third language.
Unfortunately, my offer has been rejected, and now i am only applicable to take Arabic ( second choice).
Is there any way that I can appeal to learn French? I don’t really have that all much interest in Arabic.
