The allocation of schools is purely by merit, as livewith vanilla explained. So let's say your child has an aggregate of 251 and puts School A as first choice and School B as 2nd choice. If he doesn't get into his first choice but his aggregate is enough to get him into his 2nd choice, he will be allocated his 2nd choice. It doesn't matter whether the person after him (say Person B with score 250) placed School B as 1st choice because your child is ranked higher than Person B. So the computer will finish your child's allocation before moving onto Person B.

So what if Person B has the same score as your child? Although you both may have 251, MOE recognises the t-score up to MANY decimals, ie 251.xxxxxxxxxxx. MOE has said that it is very unlikely that two children will have the exact same score down to the last decimal. In the very unlikely scenario that it does happen, then yes, the person who put School B as 1st choice will be given that last remaining vacancy.

So MOE will first allocate a place to Alex Tan to his first choice school (unless he’s already selected for DSA), then move on to those with 279.

Then when they come to a child scoring, say 240, MOE will try to get him into his first choice, but if 1st choice already full, then 2nd choice, and so on. Is that correct?

Then how does affiliation come into play? Do they put aside, say 20% of total available places for those coming from affiliated primary schools, and assign these 20% places to the highest scoring students from the affiliated primary schools? Do the students have to put the affiliated sec school as 1st choice, or could be 2nd, 3rd or 4th choice?

I have a query. My son scored 258 +2 for HigherMT Chinese. He wants to put RI as the first choice and HC as the 2nd choice. Let's say, RI seats are wll filled up. I understand that MOE will ranks students according to their aggregate score. So he will be ranked below student A who scored 259. Student's A first choice is HC. If student A fill up the last vacancy of HC, when my son's turn come he will have no more place in HC. How does +2 help in this case? :?

I'm not really sure but it should be that because HCI is SAP school, the +2 will be counted (therefore your son's score will be 258+2 = 260) and will have priority over student A who scored 259.

Students from affiliated primary schools have to put their affiliated secondary school as 1st choice to enjoy the privileged COP. If they don't, they lose that privilege. Some affiliated secondary schools stipulate a COP for affiliated students. For eg., MGS 220, SCGS 210, ACSI 235. Other schools take in a percentage of their affiliated primary school. The top scoring ones will be taken in first until the last vacancy is filled. Only after the affiliated pupils are taken in are the vacancies open up to the non-affiliated students.

In this example, we have child A, child B : both competing for school X

The entire 2017 Psle cohort T-score get sorted first, before computer start processing.

A will enter school X first before B, because A’s request for Secondary schools admission gets processed first by MOE computer, before B’s request :
because A’s T-score at 250, is one point higher than B’s T-score at 249. A T-score may not be exactly 250 on the dot, but can be 250.123456… (eg) with many decimal points trailing behind.

Likewise, B T-score may not be exactly 249 right on the dot, but can be 249.345678… (eg)

Whose request, get processed first, by computer ?

Will be the Top scholar, amongst entire 2017 Psle cohort.

Whose request, get processed last ?

Will be the last candidate, right at the very bottom of the cohort, with the lowest Psle T-score.

Psle batches for (2018, 2019, 2020 last batch) : will follow this same method of processing.

Come 2021, T-score go down history.
AL (Achievement level) score takes over.

Hi all, can I clarify something as well? If a child has a t-score that’s higher than COP of his school of choice. He will be automatically assigned to the first choice? What if choice B is a SAP school which he got +1 for HCL? Would it mean that the child would be allocated to choice B since his t-score is technically higher for school B?
