Dear Brenda10,Brenda10:
Dear VC
You're welcome. DD's answers are as follow:
CHIJ St. Nicholas Maths 2010 CA1 P2 Q3
Working
8m - (1/2m x 6) = 5m
5m /2 = 2.5 m (lenght of each rectangle)
2.5 x 0.5 = 1.25m²
Answer: 1.25m² mean same with the answer key 1¼ m²
Pls revisit the working of this question again and thks.
8m - (1/2m x 6) = 5m -> OK
5m /2 = 2.5 m (length of each rectangle) should be 5m/6 since there are 6 lengths for 3 rectangles.
5/6x0.5 = 5/12 m²
Answer: 5/12 m² which is not the same with the answer key 1¼ m²
After discuss with dd, we have the following concern.
DD takes it as a figure. She shaded the other 2 triangles and derive as this answer (1.25m²).
However, if she stacks them the other way she will get another different answer (7/12 m²) .
So if we divide by 6 then we will get the same answer with your sister (5/12 m²) .
Thank you. -

Dear Brenda10,Dear VC
After discuss with dd, we agree that your sister answer is correct.
DD should not just put 3 rectangles next to each other. She now realizes if she stacks them the other way she will get another different answer (7/12 m²) . As such if we divide by 6 then we will get the same answer with your sister (5/12 m²) .
Thank you.
Thks for your confirmation and with this question answered correctly, it's perfect score for my younger sister in this 2010 P6 CA1 paper.
But, I warned her that with additional topics like circles and speed being tested in P6 SA1/Prelim, it will not be easy for her.
Thks for your quick response.Much appreciated.

One concern is that dd said if we takes this as a figure and shade the other 2 triangles next to it, then the answer will be same with the answer key.
What is your view? -

Why is there a need to rearrange the shaded parts? If you move them so that they are now side by side then
8-(1/2x6)=5
5÷2=2.5
2.5x1/2=1.25 which is the answer given.
Is that the way that dd does? I don't think that these 3 rectangles should be rearranged, what do you think? -

Q11Brenda10:
Kong Hwa 2010 EL CA1 Q11
Her answer was also Option 3 (are prepared) that same with the answer key provided.
According to her, All is the reference and one is for information only
All but one _____ to take part in next week's Mathematics Quiz.
(1) was prepared
(2) had prepared
(3) are prepared
(4) is prepared
Understand that the reference is all which means that everyone except one person will be taking part in next week's Maths Quiz.Should it be \"All but one is prepared...........\" instead of \"All but one are prepared................\"?
Pls help to explain the grammatical rule in this case.

Pei Hwa Presbyterian Pri - 2010 P6 English CA1 paper:
Are the Q26 to Q30 missing from the paper but the text about \"Dr Jane Goodall and her chimpanzees\" is available?
Thks and much appreciated for your response.

I'm sorry that we're not sure how to explain the grammatical rules. Hopefully somebody else can help.
Yes. We have the Q26 to Q30. I can PM to you if you need it.
Thank you. -

What dd meant was this figure is made up with 12 recetangles of equal sizes.
As you can see 6 each make up of two rows.
She said if we takes it as a figure (3 recentagles side by side) then the answer will be same with the answer key. However, if we takes it as 3 indiviidual recentangles then it will require 6 lenghts.
However, I think should be divided by 6 since the shaded parts are not next to each other.

I am also confuse. Hopefully you can advise which should be the correct way to attempt to this quesiton.

From the question, it's stated that the total perimeter of the shaded parts is 8 m so why should we rearrange the 2 shaded rectangles to form a figure that have 3 shaded rectangles side by side?
I think that it's good idea to post the complete question with the diagram for other KSP members to see and provide their feedbacks. Could you pls help to post this question?
Thanks
PS: I don't know how to resize the diagram so I can't help much. If not, just wait for the online version for this paper to be available so that we can provide the link for this question.

I'm sure you sister will do very well in 2011 PSLE maths since she is able to resolve all these questions.
Cheers
