I often hear parents saying that it is important that the child likes the school of his/her choice. I agree too but in reality, our 12 year-olds have not attended the school before, and they could only base on impression at Open House and some get influenced from their friends. Choice of Sec school is a very difficult decision. KSP certainly provides lots of valuable informations to parents and students. Hopefully all make the best choice.

At this level, any mistake made is still managable as after all, still sit for the same exam ie 0-level. For high ability students, they hve a choice to opt for IP at yr3, so no worries.
After that, any mistake made in the selection of route ie poly vs jc or a course to pursue in poly or jc is going to be a major one. It will hve a major impact on the morale of students and the choices available in unis.
Needless to say, thousands of mistakes occur every year in each cohort. -

But if the child is clear which school she prefers, there is no reason to follow any fix rules. Are there any real reason why one school has a higher COP than the other besides some mysterious reasons better students tend to choose the first school over the latter?

Most girls who score 260+ will always choose RGS or NY. For boys, it’ll be RI or HCI. So the COP of these schs never drop. The public just have gd impression of these elite schs, so lots of parents will hope their children get a place there.
Actually, with the DSA sports, some students have much lower score than the COP. I know of gals who scored less than 240 this yr, got into NY because of sport talent. -
