Some tutors are horrible...if they know parents depend on them to coach, they will play parents out suddenly. Really have to be on the ball where kids' education is concerned, so that even if played out, the parent won't be caught offguard.

I remembered sent dd for a compo trial class and was very disappointed that the teacher only done very simple marking by correcting some wrong words. No good phrases or suggestion has given and as such how can the child improve in her compo?

For a trial class, the teacher should have done a better job to entice the parent to sign the child up for more classess. Then the parent would definitely want the child to learn more and pick up more to improve the compo.

          Hi parents,

DS1 requested to stop all tuition classes next year. And only go for Chinese tuition.

I feel very insecure....considering that he is taking his PSLE next year.....

          how ? how ? any advice whether I should agree ? :?:

To give you an idea of his \"standard\"..... he went for a Maths placement test in Andrew Er early Dec, scored 88% and the teacher there said he is not very strong in non-routine question.

          He is #15 in school.

          Cheers !

              Maths assessment:

I didn't actually do much maths assessment. The Maths Homework Book by My Pals are Here that my school uses was enough tricky. I also used Andrew Er's Maths books.

For the Maths Homework Book by My Pals are Here!, are you referring to \"My Pals are Here! Maths Tests 6\" 2nd edition written by Zalina A. Jalil B.Sc., PGDE and published by Marshall Cavendish Education?
Could you pls recommend some of the Maths books written by Andrew Er?

No, I'm referring to the Maths Homework 2nd Edition by Bernice Lau P. W. B. Sc . FPDE (NIE) published by Marshall Cavendish Education.

I use the Andrew Er's maths companion (New Syllabus).
              https://www.popular.com.sg/jsp/product/product_detail.jsp?vca001=112&vpd001=78640

Other than this book, I haven't use any of the maths books written by Andrew Er.

-My tuition used this. I liked the book. It covers the four major topics for PSLE . 🙂

Is there another book of the same series for Primary 3 & 4? If yes, do you recommend to buy it?

Yes there is another book for P3 and P4, but you have to get 4 books for that.
I find the P5 and P6 one sufficient.

-My tuition also uses this. There are notes inside and practices.

Think that there should be another one for lower block and is it necessary to buy it too?

The above link is book 2. There is another in green that is book 1. There are two books for the P5 and P6 one. Sufficient already. Buy too many, also might not be able to finish, so just get the P5 and P6 ones. The P3 and P4 topics are usually the foundations for the P5 and P6 topics.

I shall post more tomorrow. Have to sleep now. ^^

Thanks for your helpful tips. BTW, we had bought the English book recommenced by you in another thread - Creative Writing for Primary 3-6 by Liza Tan and published by Mexxi Three.
Have sweet dreams and we look forward for your future postings.

Thanks again. Well, My younger sister has never used any of the Maths books written by Andrew Er. But this will change as we will buy the above recommended book - Andrew Er's maths companion (New Syllabus).

We saw two (2) interesting guide books on PSLE Science and pls advise if you or your friends had any feedback about them:

-My friend used this book for PSLE (of course, she used the primary six one). I looked it through, looked good. Should you intend to get this, do browse through it first.
Is this title of the P6 version of the above mentioned book:

                  小六华文指导手册
A handbook to Primary Six Chinese

as the PSLE version is all P4 to P6 rolled into one book:

                  PSLE 华文应考手册
                  A handbook to PSLE Chinese

                  For PSLE english,
I just used the PSLE English Guidebook, the My Pals are here one. The very same kind as the PSLE Science Orange Guidebook.
I believe the colour of the \"PSLE English Guidebook from My Pals are Here\" is dark blue in colour. Am I correct as I think that I used it in 2008?
                  livewith_vanilla:
                  Also I used this book:
Advanced Vocabulary for Primary Six. Not sure if they have for Primary Five.

Its published by REDSPOT publishing and writting by Andy W. Taylor (M.A English)
Yes, it's a good book first published on September 2010 with 180 tests:

It is a really really really thick book. I have given it away and have forgotten the title. But there are close to 400 pages inside and it is white in colour.
Went to Popular this afternoon but could not find this close to 400-page thick Science book that is white in colour after searching for over half an hour. 😢 If you can recall, pls kindly advise.Thks.

                    Hi livewith_vanilla,

I agree with you…no need to get too many Science guide books or there won’t be sufficient time to read all. A good one or maybe 2 is enough. So I’ve got the ‘Science PSLE Revision Guide’ by Marshall Cavendish.

                    Hi Mummies,
                    I’ve flipped through the 作文技巧

                    Chinese Essay Writing Guidebook
                    Advanced Level

Wanted to get it but realized the front section is mostly on 好词好句好段. If you have a guide book which already has a section on this, there is no need to get the Advanced level of the book mentioned above. There is a guide on ‘命题作文’ by Victoria Publications.

For my own class, the two guide books that are popular are the Ultimate Science and PSLE Science (Orange Book).

I find the PSLE Guide I-Science familar.
                        I shall ask around then.
For the Companion to Science, no one I know uses it.
For my own class, the two guide books that are popular are the Ultimate Science and PSLE Science (Orange Book).

                        Dear vanilla

                        Thank you for your recommedation.

So far I had bought the PSLE Guide I-Science and Upper Block P5 & P6 Ultimate Sciene Guide book. Dare not to buy too many as I'm no sure what school will recommend and also in view of dd may not able to have time to read through all.
