Totally agree with dyh. When my DD was in K1/2, I didn't even bother to coach her and left all the spelling and 听写 to my parents when my DD was being looked after by them. Didn't even bother much when she sat for her SA1 in Pri 1 but then, after 6 mths in PH.... Hah! I've transformed to be so kiasu that my parents cannot take it! But it was a little late, cos SA1 results pulled my DD down eventhough she got 96 all subjects for SA2. :stupid:

ohhh!! all subjects got 96 for SA2, very good!! crouching tiger is here!!

Yup, at the rate this crouching tigress is going, she is ready to spring into action next year, jumps on all her preys and moves up to the top class in P4!! 😉 😉 Happy Mama, your dd and you can do it! All the best!! 😉 😉

lizhi, you can checked out the first page... there is a list of PHPPS parents in this forum and you will know which level their kids are in....

you can go \"marketing\" together with E3 since both the dd are in the same class. you can also invite happy mama along, her dd's class is just next to your dd's class...haha...

I think once you take away the 'incentives' of ranking & streaming, P1 can actually be quite enjoyable & not too stressful (provided of course ds results don't belong to the bottom kind).

Let us know how you feel abt this issue at end of P1.

I adopted a DIY attitude when my #2 was in P1. No tuition, no coaching from me. Really DIY himself. Results were not bottom kind. In fact I was proud of him as he did it all by himself. Then the sch report book came back with a slip of paper showing the statistics of the cohort. I fainted. His so-called non-bottom results (which were low band 1 and high band 2) were just ard the sch avg.

Dun let this enbloc P1 to P2 makes you go easy. An easy going attitude once formed inside a child is going to be very hard to change once the going gets tough (meaning P2 to P3 onwards).

Oh dear, this is bad... How can the school do that? :x By the way, all the best to your DS for his P1 next year. 😄 😄
Thanks Happy Mama for the well wishes. 😄

Ok, will see whether I still hold the same view come end next year.
In view that so many PH parents are flashing the amber light at me, I think I better make myself clearer. Even with en-bloc, of course I'll still cajole ds to read lots of books esp. chinese ones & increase his general knowledge. Just that I won't be too concerned with his sch's textbooks or fall over myself with his exams results during P1. It's a bit like kindy, just let ds learn but won't fret over the test marks. Must keep it that way till P2, cos we must conserve energy for 5 more years of slogging to go.

Wa, after hearing all these, I become more stressed for next year... 😓 I hope she will improve but getting into top class may be a challenge... Will try hard! :xedfingers:
Was just looking at the KSP Academic Ranking for 2010.

PHPPS has once again done well.
It climbs from Rank 8 to Rank 7 in 2010.
Once again, it has shown its potential by being the only non-GEP School in Top 10.

Kudos to all Students, Teachers and Parents.
The P has done well too.
:udawoman: :udaman:

Excellent for a non-GEP school to be ahead of the other 3 GEP schools in ranking. PHPPS can be easily be top 5 if given GEP status.

Yeah, Every Year PH \"CONTRIBUTE\" about 10 to 20 P3 Top Students to GEP school, TO HELP them Maintain Top 10 School Status ....

Ha-Ha ....

The P3 \"Contribution\" makes it even harder because the good ones take their PSLE in \"GEP Sch\". So the fact that after \"losing\" the good ones, they are still able to maintain the Top 10 is very commendable.
Actually I would say PH parents can hardly relax...given the competitiveness of the kids and pressure from the principal to PERFORM

Who says parents cannot relax  ? From P1 to P2 I intend to relax. I'll just teach ds whatever I feel like teaching him under the sun, regardless of the syllabi. Will only follow the syllabi from P2 onwards cos by then got streaming mah.

Hi markfch, when my kid was in K, i said something similar as you and could not understand why Spore parents are so KS. but after entering PH, i still got trapped into this competitive pressure.. the environment rubs into you. well, that's why we are in KS forum now?
It is like a Whirlpool .. you will get suck in. 😉
