All About Kids' Eye-sight

dd has been on atropine eye-drop for 4 years. Her myopia is effectively under control but I also worry about whether there is any long-term effects. Her doctor doesn’t seem to think so. The degree may also shoot up if she stops the eye drop.
Anybody has children who has been on atropine for more than 4 years? -

Eye doc also get the optometrist to check then use the result for consultation. The only good thing is eye doctor can put eyedrop to confirm the accuracy of the test.Personally, I feel that for pre-school school kids, might be a good idea to bring them to an eye doctor for their eye check-ups instead of going to the optometrist first. You can visit the eye doctors recommended by HPB. Alternatively, u can also go to the Eye Clinic at KK Hosp.
The optometrists are not medically trained so where eyes are concerned, better to bring the child to an eye doctor/specialist for better advice. -

The cheapest way to see a doctor in KKH is to get a referral fm Polyclinic doctor. I believe the SGD70 that you mentioned is for direct walk-in to KKH.
The bill still comes up to $50 with polyclinic referral letter. -
Hi, anyone went to point optical group to do ortho k lens. Any bad comments. I read up that the lens can caused cornea ulcers. Mee Mee or point optical group is better. My daughter’s degree had increased from 100+ to almost 400 from P1 to P2, very worry about her so planning to get the lens for her but do not know which optical shop is better and any long term side effect. Thanks.

Perhaps doing some eye relaxation might help. I make sure my younger boy do relaxation exercise and not to read under dim or intense lightings and limit his exposure to tv or computer screen. He is not wearing specs. There are some helpful techniques from youtube.

The moment a young child starts wearing specs, any kind of relaxation exercises do not help at all. We have spent so much on eye massage, bought one machine supposed to help eyes relax, eye tonics etc etc. Nothing helps and her degree kept shooting up at an alarming rate. Finally, we brought her to an eye specialist who prescribed atropine eye-drops. Then the myopia came under control.

Any long term side effect of atropine ? Since it actually goes into the blood stream ?
Is it true that once the child is off the drop, the myopia will increase in a more alarming rate ??
Asking on behalf of a colleague… -
The immediate side-effect is sensitivity to sun. The doctor said no long-term side-effects, atropine has already been used for many years.
When it’s time to stop the drop, then it will be done gradually, that means from once a wk to once every 2 wks, and so on… Then the degree will not shoot up as we all feared. -

atropine is done everyday or every week? The immediate side-effect is sensitivity to sun. The doctor said no long-term side-effects, atropine has already been used for many years.

Once a wk, preferably Friday night, as the 2 days after the drops are applied, the eyes will be most sensitive to sun,
Some children use the eye-drops every night, some on alternate nights, it all depends on the eye specialist.
