Mathmaniac:
Sorry, I read the question wrongly. I thought the question said the amount of money in A is more than B, which is impossible.tianzhu:
2. Box A contains only 20-cent coins and Box B contains only 50-cent coins. The number of coins in Box A is twice that in Box B. The amount of money in Box B is $1.80 more than that in Box A. How much money is there in Box A?
Hi
You may use Guess and check or Number*Units to solve Q2.
You'll get 36 number of 20 cents coin and 18 number of 50 cents coin, making a difference of $1.80(more of 50 cents).
The answer is $7.20.
Best wishes
A faster way of doing:
$0.20x2=$0.40
For 1 50 cent coin in B, you have 2 20 cents coins in A, and a difference of 50-40=10 cents.
So for 1.80 difference, you take 1.80/0.10=18 coins in B
So u have 2x18=36 coins in A.
36x$0.20=$7.20
Thanks Mathmaniac and tianzhu for solving Qn 2. -

A = B + 2
B = C + 1
99,360
= 2^5 x 3^3 x 5 x 23
= (2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3) x (2 x 23) x (3 x 3 x 5 )
= 48 x 46 x 45
A = 48
B = 46
C = 45
No. of students in Class A = 48 -

Hi,
Please help on this question. Thanks.
1. The ratio of the number of oranges to the number of pears in Melvin’s stall was 9:5. He sold 240 oranges and 200 pears to Mr Koh. The ratio of the remaining number of oranges to the remaining pears was 12:5.
(a) How many oranges did he have left?
(b) How many oranges and pears did he have altogether at first?
Thanks

HI, DD working:
O : P
9 : 5
-240 -200
12 : 5
O 45u 1200
P 60u 2400
Diff 15u = 1200
1u = 80
Oranges Left 9u - 240
720 - 240 = 480
Oranges and pears at first : 14u
14 * 80 = 1120
Hopefully the answer is correct. -
