dear all... new to this forum.. seeking for some suggestions from the pros here... being rejected as PV in south view which we are 200m away from school... hubby is an ex student from princess E but there will be quite far, sch bus will be abut $100 plus long travelling daily for her. Or should i just enroll her to nearby sch like CCKPS or concord?
Travelling on the bus on long distance can be a strain on young children, esp morning session when they have to wake up early and CCA later on...furthermore, bus fees are not cheap either.
CCKPS would be a better choice. -

Hi Kuddles:Hi, have 2 DS ,#1due for p1 reg in 2011. Am contemplating 2 options:
1. Currently out of 2km of Peihwa, accepted under PV via appeal n asked to do 100 hrs! Felt but exploited  now staying within 1km to Henry park (2c) as backup plan
2. Shift to within 1km to ACSJunior (2c). This yr was close shave (63 applicants for 64 spots)
Which should I go for?Starting to be concern about the importance of affiliation as heard neighborhood sec sch cut off pts at 230 level. Is it true ?
Just my 1 cents worth of advice:
1) Peihwa : Think, you should drop this school idea. Even though, I'm staying within 1km, I don't even think that my chance of my kids can get in. There are many new properties springing in that areas. Trust me, if you are more than 2km, don't waste your time to do PV there anymore. Put your time into something more meaningful. For the past years, especially last year registration, balloting for 2B and 2c is meant for those staying less than 1km? (If I'm not wrong) You might want to check the balloting history. Also, to note that their Chinese Standard are high.
I gave up putting my chance 2 kids @ Pei Hwa, after much consideration. And I think I made a right choice!
2) Henry Park: Good school. They churned out good quality top students. But down side is : they do not have affiliated secondary school. But you have the advantage as you are already staying within 1km.
3) ACS Jnr: You must be mentally prepared too. Cos' there are really many many new properties around that region. It is going to be more tough every year. Good advantage is : They have affiliated secondary schools. Wide selection of CCAs. Your boys will enjoy and have great fun in the school. If you can go under Phase 2B (eg. Methodist Member or Grassroots), and staying less than 1km, you chance is definitely higher. -
Hi kuddles,
If you’re staying out of 2km of Pei Hwa, it’s definitely not worth while chalking up 100 hours of PV…even at 2B, you won’t have a chance to be balloted. Pei Hwa is a SAP school and uses Higher CL…it’s very much tougher. Not only that, there is no affiliated sec school.
If you’re staying within 1km of Henry Park, you definitely have an advantage but like Pei Hwa, there is no affiliated sec either. -
Hi Mummies,
I’ll be registering for my DD1 next year (2011) too - feeling very anxious already. Need advise regarding pri schools with affiliations vs. pri schools w/out affiliations. Does it really reduces the ‘stress’ in our children when PSLE comes?
Cos, my daughter will be under Phase 2A2 for Henry Park. However, location is really a prob for us - we’re staying in Jurong West. -
dear all
am abit too early…but i gotto plan!!!
my dd is born in 2006…
and we are staying in Yio chu kang area…
nearest school is Rosyth…but we are not within 1 km…
my next choice is CHIJ OLGC…how do i improve her chances for getting into the school…
Appreciate all your invaluable inputs… -

My son is a Dragon baby (2000)...he's in a school without affiliation to sec. So he will have to work extra hard to get into a secondary school of his choice. The cut-off is higher for students from other schools in comparison. For eg St Andrew's Sec takes in all the boys from the St Andrew's Junior and cut off point (COP) is 180 compared to 230.Hi Mummies,

For my younger child who is a girl, we have registered her in CHIJ Toa Payoh where I am old girl...much further as compared to older sibling (walking distance). But there is affiliated sec. So daughter will have option to continue in CHIJ TP secondary or another sec school if she does very well at PSLE. -
hi there,
My DD is 5 years and will be enrolling for P1 in 2011.
Option 1 - Kuo Chuan (KCPPS)
Option 2 - River vally primary
Option 1 - Within 1-2Km
Option 2 - Her daddy is from River valley primary.
Would like to know about both these schools…
Which school should I opt for?
I wanted to try Pei Chun but it is out of 2km, and no PV. Think my chance of getting it is slim. -

Yup...sold the house in jul and moving to our new place soon. MGS will be within walking distance, a luxury that I never had when I was a kid. Son will go to ACPS one year later...which is 'down' the road. Saves a bit on the ridiculous school bus fees though...but more importantly, proximity gives them more to study! Haha.
All the best spikey. MGS with her affiliation is an very smart choice. The things we'll do for our kids, if only they knewspikey:
getting ready for the last preparations...my class 2B less than 1 km for MGS preparations are finally ready!

So envious.

Nobody knows what P1 registration will be every year...take this year's registration for example, several schools had balloting which was not to be expected as 2004 has the lowest birth rate. But what happened is, there are many PRs and new Singaporeans (converted from PR).
yes actually stiff competition is coming from PRs and new Singaporeans
