Hi jtoh, tks for the confirmation. Thought to check in this forum since the parent was very adamant that ACS (I) takes in girls at Year 3. She almost insisted that I call the school to check - but I thought that the school will probably be too busy preparing for the new school year (and handling registration and transfer cases) to want to be bothered by me.

Hi, I've always the impression that ACS (I) admits girls to their IB programme only in Year 5. However, one parent whom I spoke to insisted that ACS (I) admits girls in Year 3.

Can any parents enlighten me with regards to this? TIA!

No lah. ACSI only takes in girls in Year 5.

I believe that there are plans for MGS Sophia Blackmore girls to join the ACS(I) pre-IB program at Sec 3. Not sure about when this will start. Should call MGS to find out.

Currently girls join IB only in Year 5.

Tks, gleemom, for the information. Will keep this in mind when deciding on schools for DD.

The plan is for 2013 Sec 1 batch to be the first MGS->ACS(I) IP batch. That is, they will enter ACS(I)'s IB Programme when they are in Year 5, 2017. It's possible that they will start one year earlier.

ACS(I) IB Diploma results are out. They’ll be officially released to students at noon tomorrow. Heh heh heh.

                  Hi all,

I was told that for Year-1 students in ACS-I, attending the Chapel is included as part of the Time-table and attending the Chapel is compulsory. I do not know how far it is true.

But can non-Christian students appeal for exemption? If so to whom?

                  Thank you very much.

Yes, it's compulsory. After all, ACS(I) is a Methodist institution. However, in compliance with Singapore being a secular state, there is an exemption clause for those who have another religion. Write a letter requesting that your son be exempted from Chapel on religious grounds. Address it to:

                      Mrs Fanny Tan
                      Acting Principal
                      Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)
                      121 Dover Road
                      Singapore 139650

She will reply to you and file the letter for future reference.

Personally, though, I sometimes wonder why anyone would want to put their child in a mission school and then avoid the things that make a mission school a mission school... *grin*
