Club SAHM

I've been a SAHM coming to 12 years...definitely out of the loop and un-marketable already...after reading tragic cases of kids being slashed, or else growing wayward, I want to be there for my kids for as long as possible.
Next year, son going to P5 and daughter will be in P1. So coaching them in their studies is my main priority. Fortunately, hubby and I don't have travel bug and we don't have a maid...sav quite a bit of money and headaches...shopping also very minimum although we have a weakness for handphones.

Question
when our kids enter secondary schools, they will be less reliant on us SAHMs. The school syllabus is probably beyond us by then. At that time, how to justify continuing staying at home?
Scrub the floor? Nah. -

This is exactly the situation I'm facing next year as my youngest goes to sec 1. I plan to continue with my daily morning exercise routine, embark on a few projects- pick up a new language n plan a family holiday where I'll get to use the language at the end of each year, pick up new cooking skills, go on more holidays, volunteer to tutor/supervise some disadvantaged kids- there's only so much time one can spend indulging in oneself!Question

N of course Janet_lee88 is right- sec school kids still need us, perhaps even more so as they become more mobile n capable of more mischief n need more guidance not so much on schoolwork but on issues that may trouble them. The challenge is to be the person they want to go to. -

Hello! Am a SAHM with2 kids, P1 and K1 this year.
Well, my plan is to take a postgrad dip in counselling at a poly when the kids go to P1. Even if I cant find work thereafter, understand that such a course is useful for self-improvement e.g. anger management. Anyway, it's rather cheap.
Hope I have stamina to do it when the time comes!
Keep thinking whether I can pull it off now, but guess not, since classes would be 3 times a week, not to mention assignments and attachment...
On being a SAHM... i think i do a lot with my kids: reading, homework, teaching them how to make good choices & fun stuff. Realise that not everyone has the same passion or resources to do the same, which is fine. Everyone is different.
What gets my goat is that if you're a SAHM, some pple will naturally assume that you the kind who do everything for your kid or cant let go. I dont think that has to be true. Spending my time training my kid to be independent. I dont pack his bag for him. Teach him to draw up lists/time tables/make notes -- study skills.
And I do want to get out of the house when he's older!! Just think they DO need more guidance in the early years.
Another downside is the lack of adult company. Dont think it is healthy to invest so much emotions in your children alone sigh.
Sometimes hard to focus on how lucky i am to have the chance to spend so much time with the pple I love most and also not to have to put up with sh** at work haha! -

Hi SAHMs
I'm aspiring to be a SAHM but the standards in Singapore is too high to rely on single income.
BTW, I'm searching for the right place to post this. MODs, please feel free to move the thread to appropriate place.
Our coy is looking for SAHMs to work as home-based telemarketers. We are a legitimate Singapore registered call centre who has been established since 10 years ago. As part of worklife balance initiative, we have recently rolled out a new work scheme targetting at SAHMs who want to work part-time from home. Payment is results based estimated between $5 to 9 per hour. Not coldcalling or MLM. No fees required. Just a good working PC and Internet Connection. Training will be provided for 3 days with allowance.
Please call 6-3-3-7-7-4-8-8 to look for Vivien or PM me your contact number for more details.
Cheers. -
hello everyone!
i am new to this forum, nice to read about all your experiences and thots. i am a new SAHM, started last Aug. I have 3 boys, which explains why i need to stay home. they need help to be disciplined!
they are in p4, p5 and k1. after staying home with them for a few months, i can't help but feel it was the right decision. i suppose there are many out there who can have a well run home and well behaved kids even while working but i stopped work cos i felt that my children were not making full use of their time.
anyway, it was a journey of emotional ups and downs. now i am finally settling down more.
agree with many of your thots, that we need to think about more than our own children. i also planned to be a SAHM (either full or part time) well into their sec school years. that's one of the reasons why i am SAHM now, and not when they were younger. i wanted to be with the boys when they reach puberty - to stabilise them, and also to \"protect\" my youngest from them! -

Around $900/mth for both my kids in primary school. I can't coach everything εΏζδ½θεδΈθΆ³ so have to outsource my weakest link - English.just a mini poll.... for sahm only cos i think there is a separate thread similar to this.
how much are you spending on school/enrichment for all your kids. do you think it is justified given that we are sahp?
Besides English enrichments, they're attending non academic classes like speech & drama, arts & piano for my younger one
