Herbie:
i think it is ok to sit for the unsw english paper.. Dun need to take the maths n sci unsw paper. Why? Topics covered in unsw scí n maths are quite different fr our singapore syllabus. My son got an A* for Psle sci but for unsw sci paper he got credit.
I disagree. Just because the syllabus is different doesn't mean the kids can't do well. In fact, it separates those who are merely book smart from those who are able to apply what they have learnt and read. And this is why someone who gets High Distinction will get more consideration in DSA. In any case, there is no need to study for or prepare for the UNSW tests. If you do well, it'll be a booster for your portfolio and will also boost your confidence. -
my son isn’t book smart he reads alot of sci books which goes beyond the sch syllabus. For me, i m ok if my girl does not sit for the unsw exam.

Thanks
Hi Ming,
I found a school letter under \"general letters\" for 2010 on this topic. It seems rgps does organize the school's participation in the UNSW ICAS tests. However, it is for p5 and p6 students.
Happy new year,everyone. :celebrate:
Hopefully they can allow younger girls to take the UNSW tests also going forward. Will be good for the exposure. I believe some other schools do allow kids of all levels to take the tests. -

Noted your comments as regards the english and science with thanks, jtoh.
If you're applying via the Math domain, then a Gold or Platinum in the Math Olympiads will be important. A High Distinction in UNSW Math doesn't hurt either.
For other subject domains where there are fewer competitions, a High Distinction in UNSW Science and English would help in your application. Getting High Distinction means you're top 1% in score, so short of any other competition results, this helps schools to gauge your ability. Note that this is High Distinction, not just Distinction.
There have been so much talk about the math Olympiad competitions that I have been wondering if there is any value at all in excelling in English and science. -

Of course there is. It's just that there are more Math competitions so it's more visible. The downside to this is it's definitely a more competitive domain to apply for DSA in. These days a Gold in Math Olympiad doesn't assure you a DSA offer.

There are fewer kids applying for DSA via English and Science so competition there is less intense, which is a good thing.

Hi,Hi everyone I'm new to the forum and my DD is starting P1 on Tuesday. Does anyone know what books to pack and what kind of stationery are we supposed to bring.
TIA for any feedback!
For p1 students, the focus on the first day especially will be on settling the children into the new routine and setting. In other words, the teachers are not going to mind if certain books are not brought to school. You may like to let her bring her core subject text books and activity books, ie math and mt (part one only), and one English and Chinese exercise book. For stationery, a few pencils, sharpener, ruler and eraser should be sufficient.
Such an exciting time for the family! Take pictures of your dd in her uniform then buckle up and enjoy the journey.

My DD’s school bus fixed at 6 oclock in the morning, and will arrive to school about 6:35, the drive said he need go picking up other works to work, thus has to drop those girls earlier to the school. I thought the school bus should arrange bus route properly, put more efforts to the students first. I don’t like the reason they gave to me. Just wondering where I can send my feedbacks for the school bus.

OMG… just got a call from RGPS to attend PV interview for my 2006 born child. My heart stopped beating for a moment… hehe…
I know it’s not guaranteed (far from it), but so excited and also so worried! Need to ask for experienced mommies/daddies’ advise… what should I prepare? What should I bring? How will the interview proceed? Who will interview, how many people will interview us? Is it like a panel interview? What will be the questions? To be honest, we are not sure what the school needs, and our skills are not that specialized and can only offer general services like admin work/warden/escorting children. Does RGPS usually require very specialized services from their PV parents? What kind?
Regarding the time, how usually FTWM cope with the PV jobs? How will the jobs be given to PV parents, through sms/email?
So nervous… will appreciate any advise. Thanks a lot!
