      Daddy:

      Is the above uses AP formular?
      Hi
      Leaving some extra sticks is a logical explanation. It depends on how the question is crafted. Is your question an exact replicate from your child’s worksheet or is it being summarised by you?

      Yes, it is an AP with a constant difference of 5.But I do not encourage using formulae at this stage. It’s more important to see the relationships in patterns.

      Use the same principle as in Find the sum of (1+2+3 ..................+100) to solve your question.

          ChiefKiasu:
          Here's another one, this time from Catholic High Primary 3 SA1:

          Gregory and Timothy has 192 stickers together. After Timothy gave 30 stickers to Gregory, Timothy had thrice as many sticker as Gregory. How many stickers did Gregory have at first?

          Again... no algebra please.
          T [][][] )
          ) 192
          G[] )

          4 units [] = 192
          [] = 192/4
          [] = 48

          Hence T have (48x3)=144, and G have 48

          T gives 30 sticker to G

          Henceforth G has 30 more and T have 30 less.

          Now we have to work backward as we need to find at first.

          G 48-30 =18

                    Is this P6 level? Assuming they already know fractions?

                    The diagram is the working.
                    Each unit is a glass.
                    In row 2, the unit is halved, so 2 half filled units = 1 filled unit
                    The reason for using model diagram is that visually it is easy to see how the units can add up to give the same 3.5 units for the orange juice (total orange juice = 21 half-units, so we need to combine 7 half-units(=3.5 full units) for each child)

                    The other clue to solve this is that there are total 21 glasses so each child must get 7 glasses. Hence, in order to achieve that, there must be different combination of full, half and empty glasses since 7 are full, 7 half and 7 empty in order to achieve the other condition of same amt of orange juice.

                    Hope this helps to explain the solution.

                        Ben had 338 more bookmarks than Carson.Ben gave some bookmarks to Carson so that Carson had 82 more bookmarks than Ben. How many bookmarks did Ben give Carlson?

                        Ans: 2 units + 82 = 338 bookmarks
                        2 units --- 338 -82 = 256 bookmarks
                        1 unit --- 256 divide 2 = 128 bookmarks
                        128 + 82 = 210
                        Ben gave 210 bookmarks to Carlson.

                        BUT I DID NOT KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN WHT THE USE THE 2 UNITS TO MY GIRL ? ANYONE HAD OTHER SOLUTIONS ?
