Agree with Lavender Tea, go for it if u can. I have 4kids. Last one came as a surprise.Was apprehensive when I found out I was pregnant again cos age gap of the rest are close, but luckily she was easy as a baby, slept thru the nite easily and wean off easily as well. Most of all, she had so much fun with her siblings. Even for those with 4 kids, when they are grown-up, the house also very quiet as its so common for them to study or work overseas nowadays..... -
everyday i hv to nag n scold my kids, i think its bad for my health. really dont dare try another one. my kids are all 2 to 3 yr gap

JSSL Arsenal. It's at VJC in Marine Parade. We started in the second half of last year, so he's quite new to the sport. But he enjoys it a lot!

Yah, time-saving is so important! I'm putting both my boys in the same swimming class, even though DS2 doesn't know how to swim and DS1 can swim decently. Saves time and money! I get the coach to come to our condo, thus saving more time (though not saving money, but since time is money... ...). Their music school is also near to our home, so that we can save on commuting time as well, especially now that DS1 is going to take exams and has all these extra classes he has to go for.if i do start swimming in future (can form a class already since i hv 3 kids), can only do it on a sun cos no other days already. i dont want to hv to go out everynite so mine is one class after another for some days.

the most time-saving is all tutors come to our hse. but it isnt money-saving…

just curious, for those with kids learning piano, do ur child whine when ask them practise piano? is it eg all 3 kids learn piano / will be given chance to learn piano/ or is it given only if the child ask for it?
piano is a long term commitment…so ex… -
We consider music as essential to our kids’ development and education as language, math or swimming. It’s not about interest - even if they are not interested in math, they will still have to learn it in school. Same goes for music. As I am trained in the piano, I chose piano as the default instrument. I guess it could have been the violin or flute. It is not cheap, but we don’t send them for Math or English classes. i suppose that’s the time and financial trade off for us. we won’t be able to afford all those classes!
My 6 yo will whine about practising, but that’s a 6 yo for you. He will whine about everything! But he still practices. But having to supervise the practising can often drive me up the wall…

my #1 (p3) is learning piano. she is ok in the beginner grade but now learning for grade 1, is whining cos more difficult. n as she gets older, becomes lazier. whines abt academic wk too.
i wonder shd i just let her learn for leisure and hence no exams and no need to push her or expect much from her (but then there will be no return from it since it wont be professional learning), or shd hv exam as per normal n wk towards it.
swimming is important becos its a lifeskill. but piano to me is good but not that a must have to progress to grade 8 if already got some basics b the child is lazy, not willing to wk hard (is it a signal of not enuf interest?) and not enuf flair？？
the teacher says she is just want to stay in comfort zone, whc is true, but i shd still push her cos its not a lack of ability. just lack of discipline. -

DS2 is taking formal group keyboard class after graduating from music appreciation. Very basic because he’s still very young. But will send him to 1-on-1 when he’s ready.
Like you, I’m not so hung up about needing to get to grade 8 exams etc. as i don’t think of them getting professioal qualifications in music unless they are really interested and have the talent (using the math analogy - they have to learn math but no need to get a degree in math…). What i want to see is for my kids to really learn music, learn great technique and gain mastery, so that they can play for enjoyment in their adulthood. Therefore, whether it’s for exams or not, they still need to practice, otherwise how to improve? If they practice regularly, they will improve gradually (some faster than others depending on talent and quality of practice) then that’s when the exams will come in.
I suppose with exams, it can be boring coz you only play the same old stuff over and over again. My friend’s son was bored with classical pieces, so he switched to jazz piano instead. He doesn’t take exams but he’s improving all the time. I see nothing wrong with that as it is still music… -

For us, all our 3 older kids asked to learn music in pri 1. So it was child's decision, not ours. And all 3 of them chose a different instrument (faint, right?!). I only encourage where I see it's needed. Other than that, they are mostly on their own. They do know they have to practise and it's non-negotiable, so we don't have much problems with whining about practices. The problems are more with the quality of the practices. However, with the older ones doing well in music, no.4's music journey is sort of a \"must-do\" already.
