All About Measuring Home-School Distance

rosicky:
Hi, does the school redraw the 2km radius every year? If yes, when will they publish the latest radius? Thanks. Cos my house is just outside the 2km (2.01km
) radius, and I heard from another parent that her house was also outside 2km in 2009, but was in 2km in 2010, wonder how true is this.
Why should distance differ if the school is still in the same place? :scratchhead:
Could the other parent have used different sources to arrive at the distance? Schools only recognise one source - One Map. -
qms:
The distance differs as in where they put the center of the circle. The school compound is very big, and thus will have and impact on where they start drawing the circle from.

rosicky, I think you are still not using the official source. On SLA one map, there is no indicator on how far away. Every single building is labeled in red or blue.
And from my research, I believe they are not using a method like select a point and draw a circle. Typically, it is more tolerant than other sources like google map. -

So, you see the problem?
Different sources use different starting points. Hence, a particular property can be 0.95 km from the school in one source, but 1.05 km in another sources.
To avoid such inconsistency, there is only one source that schools use, i.e. One Map. You should also use this source to find out the distance of your house from the school. -

Thanks for the One Map information. My blk should be within 1 km of Red Swastika School but heard that it is difficult to get in.Different sources use different starting points. Hence, a particular property can be 0.95 km from the school in one source, but 1.05 km in another sources.

Not too early, not too early. Some members are searching information on schools for their unborn child.

But seriously, I tried to disturb my ds. I told him in jest that next time he should find a gf who comes from a good primary school so that his dd got good sch to go to. The next thing I knew, he went to take the psle school booklet and started flipping and looking at gal's schools!! :faint:
