How did the students do for O levels?

I think the top student is again from St. Nicholas Girls' School.

Top student from CHIJ st Nicholas with 10A1s. The only student with that score this year! And.....another Malaysian!!!!!!! Aiyah .... past 3 years all the top students from st nics and all from m'sia. 😜

But CHS had more top students. Crescent girls has the most top students with 9 A1s.
Hey so how is your DD result? Got how many A1? šŸ˜„

Not Miracles - he woke up before exams and put in effort å¼€ēŖ finally! Congratulations!

To study in full spirit after his Prelim 26 points all the way up to first day of O levels was about 6 yo 7 weeks. It's really a miracle to me! Hope he really å¼€ēŖ finally. Still have to observe some more...

I am more confident with him in his poly years and I think he will really shine there studying something of his interest plus all those interesting CCAs (rock climbing and dragon boating). He just secured for himself three good years of fun!

          Hi insider, Congrats !

          Wat is L1B4? Tks

Supposed to be Language + 4 best subjects (I miss-typed as R1B4 in my original post). Errr...that was in my era...

Now they calling it ELR2B2, which stands for

          Eng + 2 relevant subjects + 2 best subjects.

No lah - it's just L1R5 (bc L1 can be another language eg. Higher CL).

You can use HMT or EL for L1, whichever is better. But if HMT is counted in L1, MT cannot be counted in R5. If EL is L1, MT can be 1 of the R5.

Congrats, Insider on your son's improvement in grades!!

Eh... just want to add that it's not all fun in the poly. There's a lot of hard work too if the student wants to do well and gain admission into the local uni. Important to maintain a balance between the academic and CCA. Wish ur ds all the best in his first choice application šŸ˜‰

Hey all šŸ™‚ could I check with y'all something?

If my HCL (higher chinese) has been counted in my L1, would I still get my 2 bonus point from passing higher chinese? (not the cca points) 'coz I heard from someone that if my HCL was taken in for L1, I would not get the bonus points. Hope someone could kindly clarify this šŸ™‚

                  Thanks in advance :D~

                    insider:

hahaha...for my this son, I don't need him to get results good enough for local uni. My plan all this while is to send him overseas and so he just need to get something like an average B will be more than enough to please me... Average B from poly can give him advance standing in an overseas uni and so I don't need him to compete till face green green with all the kids in our so competitive universities...
That's good to know. At least the pressure can be eased off and ur ds can really enjoy his poly life. Less regimented than JC life.

Getting Bs is not impossible in the poly as long as one remains focused and adopt a positive mindset. It's also very impt that ds enjoys the course that he is doing. šŸ˜‰

                      insider:

I don't think HCL can be taken as the L1 since Eng is a compulsory language? (I am not so sure about this but from what I understand, can only compute 1 language subject into the score, meaning if both language also A1, can only take one of them. Anyone can confirm this? Maybe there's a difference in requirements pertaining to entry to JC and polys...).
There's nothing too difficult about the results slip to understand. L1R5 is for JC entry. L1R4 is for poly. Then they specified all the course codes that your child is eligible for.

And if applying to preuniversity institute - can also use the CCA grade in computation of the aggregate points!

If you need further clarification, do read the FAQ on MOE's website:
                      http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/jae/faqs/

                        insider:

I was pondering why my son's L1R5 is not 18 but 19 (his Chinese is a C5 but Humanities is a C6) coz if taking Chinese of 5 with his the other 5 subjects, it should be an 18.

My daughter said can only take 1 language and so once english is in it, chinese cannot be in it and so the computation excluded Chinese and took the Humanities.
I guess you have to specifically put a humanities subject in the computation, eg. geog, history, eng-literature, social studies, etc.
