about NEX @ Serangoon
-
autumnbronze, this is in response to your question about the dog park in the other thread.
Yes, there is a dog park right next to the kids' play area on the roof top of NEX.
The ads, promotional materials promised a dog park and we dog owners expected a nice grassy patch where our dogs can have a free run in a fenced up area like the dog runs at West Coast Park or Bishan Park that we know.
I was so excited when I first read about the so-called dog park on the roof top of a shopping mall, could not wait for it to open. Was very excited as I thought that was a very nice and new concept for a shopping mall.
The dog park finally opened at the end of last year, and when I went up there for the first time, I was shocked by what I saw! It's way, way below my expectations and those of my other dog owner friends. Few of my friends were thinking it would be a good place to bring our kids and dogs there since the kids' play area is right next to the park, but looks like we have to shelf our idea.
There was no grassy patch, only cemented ground and not only that, it's way too small. The so-called dog park is divided into 2 sections, one for big dogs and one for small dogs. And it is not a dog park, but what we dog owners call an agility course, with obstacles for our dogs to climb up and down, in and out etc and even for an agility course, it is way too small, think 5 dogs per section would have been 5 dogs too many! :!:
You have to go up there to see for yourself to know what I mean. There is a Pets' Lift somewhere near to MacDonald's. Of course, humans can use the escalators within the building to get to the roof top, no need to use the Pets' Lift to get there!
Not only the place is too small and cramp, the fence around the dog park is too low and according to a feedback at a dog forum where I am a member of, her dog actually jumped over the low fence, into the kids' play area, causing panic and screaming among the kids there .... can just imagine the scenario .....
That's why I said in the other thread that I am so disappointed with the dog park! :x :x :stupid: :stupid: -

We visited this new shopping centre the day before school started. The place is BIG, lots of different things to eat...but other than that, nothing special. Isetan is so small. After CNY, I guess some of the shops may not be able to tahan...usually the case with retail.
There have been times when I wonder if a Mall of this size, in a HDB neighbourhood, would survive for long? :? I suppose it is a matter of time before the some of the shop owners there start hitting mosquitoes! :roll:Augmum:
the fact that singaporeans love to shop,
thus any new shopping mall is always a hit at the beginning,
after half yr or so, the crowd will disperse.........
can't imagine myself paying such high rental and the end hitting mosquitoes
 -

Oh dear, I can see why you are annoyed.

Yes, I also envisioned a big grassy space when I saw your post earlier and was surprised that a shopping mall would have such a facility. But they did not manage dog owners' expectations at all from reading this post of yours.
What a disappointment! -
autumnbronze:
Yeah, had my excited balloon deflated! :x :x :stupid: :stupid: Thought it is so nice to have a grassy dog run nearby, so don't have to travel all the way to Bishan or West Coast Dog Run ..... but ..... :x :stupid: Looks like it is back to West Coast and Bishan Dog Runs for me ....Oh dear, I can see why you are annoyed.

i saw the dog park recently. OMG, so disappointed!! i like to see and watch dogs play and also expect a nice grassy corner for these active animals.
but the floor is cemented??!!! what happen if those untrained dogs urinated or poo-poo? that will make the place looked real disgusting.
the whole place is so badly design. i seriously wonder if the designers read the wrong design guide book. not a single good and commendable design in this whole shopping area. -
new_mummy:
Totally agree on that! In fact, I think was a mistake from the very beginning to even think of in-corporating a dog park in a shopping mall, that's the first mistake. :roll:i saw the dog park recently. Secondly, dogs and some kids DO NOT mix, not to mention that dogs and some races do not mix too, so why build a dog park right next to the kids' play area and have such low fence somemore?
My friends and I are predicting that it is a matter of time before they tear down the entire dog park area and extend the kids' play area, which I think is more logical even from a dog owner's point of view, since that dog park is so useless anyway!
And yes, totally agree that the whole structure was badly designed! Like you said, the designers must have consulted the wrong books when they built that building. Look at the corridors, the car parks etc ..... :stupid: -

I hate the rows and rows of lights near Watson, forgot which level is that.
Yes me too. Not sure if it is Watsons but it's near Chomel? It makes me feel as though I am coming down with a migraine attack. Really hate to walk pass it. -
Although the shopping centre is BIG, but the carpark is pathetic.

I think if my memory serves me right, there are actually two areas with such irritating lights on the ceiling! Very irritating, right?25hourmaid:

I wonder if the owners of NEX are reading this thread and if they are, wonder what their reactions would be? :? But whatever it is, it is too late for them to do anything now, especially where the layout and car park is concerned.
