Pat's Schoolhouse

Hi,
I was extremely excited when I managed to get a place for my boy at PSH⦠But it was a disappointment!
It got me worried when i attended their pre-orientation for the parents. Worry on the capabilities of the teachers. They are new and inexperience (i would say cos in my opinion, they could not handle/ manage the children well). New to the school as they are unfamiliar to the school curriculum, the operation in PSH. (To think of it, all teachers needs to be trained!!! and we are paying $1k+ for trainee teachers! Especially their English teachers!!! Its such a disappointment!)
It got be doubly worried after I attended their 3 days orientation. both the Eng and Chin teachers dun work well together, not properly organized as in they do not have a proper plan for the 3 days orientation. Lunch provided is too salty for consumption!
And on the first day of school, breakfast provided was coco crunch and honey stars. and I overheard one of the teacher who was franticly looking for cereal as the kitchen do not have enough cereal to provide for the children. -

Hi,i tried calling up today to make an appointment to view the school, the lady that answered told me to leave my number and they will call me back in 1-2 months time. I was like WHAT ??? WHY ?? she said cos now start of terms so lots of crying kids, ask me come after they settle down. Crazy right ? I'm there to see the school not to see how well behaved the kids are.
anyway I heard they will be opening another 2 more pats school hse this year but dono where yet
To be frank, there's really alot of crying around. If I have a choice again, I would not have enroll my child to a new school. Because too many crying kids around. Teachers are new (inexperience)and they are unable to attend to ur child. lessons cannot be conducted promptly cos they will have more than 1 child crying every now and then. -

Sounds that they are not very diplomatic in handling ur call... though it is true that a lot of CCs will have their hands full at the beginning of the year with a lot of new kids joining.i tried calling up today to make an appointment to view the school, the lady that answered told me to leave my number and they will call me back in 1-2 months time. If they care about the kids, in the first case, they should not take in soooo many kids so fast... or at least come in stages. Get in more experience (expensive) teacher to handle the situation and not new (cheap) no experience teacher handle this situation.
Look like they only thing they care about yr is $$. Taking care of kid not top priority hor, maximise $$ is their TOP priority!
Think no $$, better dun \"how lian\" and put yr kids in PSH and hear nothing but crying. -

My branch also served cater food. At first i also had the same concern as you... but after awhile, i am kinda of convinced that it's actually not a bad idea.NataTL:

Hi thinkle bell,
hope yr son doing well in Pat's Tanglin. I just read from another thread that this school is like toilet overcrowded and most important the meals are catered from outside?
Any comments or input from other branch mums? Am sure we prefer inhouse cooked and fresh food right?
my old cc - it's inhouse cook. But the variety really pathetic! every other day i see same kind of \"soupy rice\" or noodles being served with not much ingredients. Although the necessary rice/noodes/veg/meat are all there and the kids actually dun mind! haha think one reason is most cc only engage 1cook.. (cant justify more than 1cook) and to cook within the timeframe for the high no of kids etc.
Pats - their food selection is very wide! This is also gd as our kids get to taste/eat diff variety of food items. I did ask my boy how is the food - salty? sweet? warm? cold? etc etc.. and so far sees ok. And he also ate more in pats (given the good stuff! :p)
Fruits - are freshly cut... not part of the catering. (I see supplier sending fresh uncut fruits to sch every morn)
Thanks very much for your info. Guess kids will eat once they see their friends eating. They also like salty food. Have u ever aske who's or where the caterer from? Does the school put up the weekly menu? can we request a copy? I like to see what kid is eating in school and do not want to repeat it at home for that day. -

of cos kids has peer pressure when in cc.. and also might not really know what is \"salty\" etc. my boy wld reject some outside food as he generally preferes bland food.Mtdl,

actually it depends on the school, my DD was enrolled in a new school, brand new set up, she was the 5th child in the class with 3 teachers, and every 2 weeks there were about 2-4 additional students, allowing the time in between for the exisiting kids to settle in. Thankfully the teachers had good chemistry and worked well together. Of cos 5 new kids differs from a class of 12 crying kids..
