All About Full-Time Maids

need advice again…

the replacement maid whom we wanted at 1st, want to go MOM to complain of her abuse by employer, so we can’t take her…there was another maid who had been looking after 2yr old kid & 4 yr old kid for ard 3 months, got sent back coz of employer think she didn’t do enough to stop the 2 kids from ‘fighting’(the older kid was ‘stacking’ on top of the younger kid), & employer was able to see from camera, angry that she was not in sight to control the kids…but the maid said coz she was INSTRUCTED that she MUST wash toilet that day, & she didn’t hear the kids fighting coz she was washing toilet…
on the spot, we felt that employer is fussy, coz we will instruct maid not to do any housework when she look after the kids…so we took her…
but now a bit unsure, coz she’s already 37 yr old, single, petite, english quite weak, & when I asked her why she want to come here to work, she said her sister is quite sick with some blood/heart disease, so she want to ear $$ for her hospital bills…& on saying that, her tears roll down her cheeks…we at 1st interpret it as she has a good heart, so shd be good to my kids…but now I scared she may be too emotional or easily homesick…

So now I don’t know whether I should give my current maid who stole $$ chance…these few days,she had been much more better in her work & attitude & have more initiative in offering help, obviously coz guitly conscious…shd be hoping we give her chance…but still never own up that she stole la…thinking whether shd just bring her bk to agency for counselling+warn her+give chance…or shd I take the replacement maid…
replacement maid will need to re-train & re-adjust, also very sian & tedious…sigh

thinking of installing 1…it’s more to monitor how the new maid/current maid looks after my kids, whether instructions to follow my 2 yr old son CLOSELY is carried out…coz to us, camera can’t prevent or stop any thing dangerous/drastic, like hurting/worse killing my kids from happening…but feel more at ease if can watch what are the kids & maid doing when we are not around…

need to be easy to use & can ‘see’ from handphone coz I do not have access to laptop when I work…& my hubby does not have the time to monitor from his office laptop…can’t afford too expensive 1s also…

I went to BHG (Bugis). Hang Ten having sale. I bought some nice blouses for my maid at $13 each. Those are a bit longer type so her waist don't show when she's bent down.

The CCTV's are cheaper however their installation are big headache and u need to buy the coder to watch the films as well.. so overall even if the camera can be just 150+ but total cost can come upto 700-800... also u cannot watch online immediately... these also dont have the mic so no voice unless u buy separately...
For the IP camera.. they cannot store the films.. u can watch on iPhone etc but then if u dont watch then its gone..they are ard 250 + and installation is easy...
there is one other kind which stores in the sd card but at the most u can store for 1-2 days... and can watch online too its ard 400+... installation is easy also..

So u can chose according to ur need...

Lucky u didnt take the ist transfer maid, she must hv been very stubborn. How come the agent didnt settle the problem before allowing the maid to make a report? Yup ur 2nd maid sounds emotional, u will probably land up with additional problems.
What makes U think that if u take this transfer maid, she will not steal, shes desperate for money too.
I had 3 maids that stole too and am currently keeping a mynmar tht stole more then 5 dollars in the last 5 months. I had a filipina that stole some loose change but admitted to it eventually, she never took any more after I gave her a long lecture, somehow I knew it was a one off thing…well she never stole again and completed her contract. After her I employed an Indon and last chinese n.y. my mum left her angpow on the table and it was gone, the next day the Indon wanted a transfer, she never admitted to taking it. 7 months ago, I got this fresh 29 yr old mynmar, she used to sell vege in the market and is quite street smart except that she hardly spoke english. 9 days later my mums diamond earing was missing. My mum has been leaving it in the same box after she washes it. No Indon or filipina maid dare take it cos my mum wears it daily and if its missing they know that fingers will point at them. We kept her for near 2 months b4 giving her up. We tried our best to get her to bring it out and ws hoping that we will wake up one day to hear her say she found it… she kept saying she "no take" and no see. Theres no doubt that she took it. She acted cool but I notice she was very worried, she worked even harder after tat n whatever small change she could find she will return it. We would occassionally mention the earing n whether she found it, she refuse to admit even tho we assured her that we will keep her if she brought it out. One morning she told my mum, "I no take but I will pay" told her its the earing and not money we wanted. She was a good worker with the right working attitude and could sew and cook. We eventually brought her down for counselling but she still refuse to admit stealing so we left her at the agent and took a replacemnt. I guess she has a different mentality, she probably tinks that as long as we did not see her take, she can deny to the end.
I wont go into detail with my current mynmar for now but shes not honest and never return any money she finds on the floor etc…
Its really very hard to find an honest maid, some maids can be very bold and steal big things, others just think we dont know when small change is missing and continue to big stuff eventually whereby there are many that are honest initially but after a few yrs temptation sets in. Just like u I stressed on honesty when I took this current maid and she appeared very surprised that my last maid could steal, hah ! shes no better. Im also very stressed out training etc… In yr case, u havent reprimanded her and shes feeling very quilty and perhaps regretful especially so cos u havent told her u know about the money. I think u should give her a chance and let her know firmly that u will not hesitate to turn her to the police should she repeat stealing again.
