I agree....will definitely be much more difficult to get Edusave scholarship in sec sch. So I've also been encouraging DD to work hard this year. If she can maintain her results, maybe can even consider DSA. :xedfingers:

Hi Janice_0950,

Don't think there's a fixed range of marks your child needs to attain. Edusave Merit Bursary is awarded to the top 25% of each level in the sch with gross household income of $4000 and below per month. P1-P3 $200, P4-P6 $250. Pupils are nominated for the bursary by the sch.

Yes...the scholarship applies to all Singaporean pupils in all Singaporean schools.

I wonder for secondary school scholarship, will the top 10% include those foreign scholars who are already on scholarship studying in the same school? The computation of the top 10% if include them, though they are not eligible for it, will make less available for our locals.

There are many different types of bursary and scholarship given out to the students and I am rather confused. I would just talk about the bursary given to the top 25% of the students. I understand your child will not qualify if you earn more than 4k (your household income, for that matter) even if he/she is the top student. I also understand this apply to P1-P4.


For P5 and P6, if your child is top 10% in the school, hooray, you child is qualify for monetary award of $350 or $400 depending on whether he/she is top 5% or top 10%. In this case income level no longer come into play.

So far so good and my question is how about the supposedly top 1% of each year’s cohort. These are the students in the GEP and since they are the perceived top 1%, does that mean they receive the award as a matter of course? Or do they have to be top 10% in their GEP cohort in order to receive the award?

Another point is if they have to be top 10% of the GEP to receive the award, wouldn’t it be a tad unfair because if they remain in the mainstream, it is highly that they will be among the top 10% and they would qualify for the award easily?

Anyone can enlighten? I am really curious.

The edusave bursary has a household income qualification, as you mentioned, $4k

for edusave scholarship, there is no income qualifier, as it is named, scholarship

have not heard of scholarship for top 1% GEP. May be you are referring to the EESIS for the top 1/3 of each cohort that enters IP school - meant to help defray the high fees of independent school, regardless of GEP or mainstream, as long as you are the top 1/3 of those who enter independent school, then there is also bursary for the independent school.

answering to your above question...Only the top 10% of p5 gep and p6 gep in your kids school are qualify for the Edusave scholarship. For example if your kids school has 50 p5 gep. So the top 10% = 5 gep students will qualify for the scholarship..Kind of Unfair right.....but what to do..this is the criterial set.... :roll:
