      Hello TVPS parents,

We are returning back to singapore from UK after 5 years and my son has been offered a place in P4 for 2011 in TVPS by MOE. He is academically strong boy. I would appreciate if TVPS parents can share their experience and suggest if we should go ahead with enrolling our son in TVPS. We are anxious as he needs to get adjusted to the new place and it would be really helpful if we get feedback about the school from parents.

      Thanks in advance.
You r so lucky..we are returning too and my son is still waiting for vacancy... r u staying around AMK? I;m staying in Bishan and all the schools r full...so frustrating!

Have your son started school? tell me how u think abt Townsville ok

      Thanks

        Hi,

My good friend wants to put her son in TVPS, he is now 3. Is it a good school? It seems popular in AMK area, but I have not heard much about their academic results. I heard that Mayflower is quite good too, can any parents tell me more about Townsville?

          Hi,

Have you ask your friend that why she want to put the child in the TVPS.

The most popular school in AMK that face ballot every year is Anderson primary and St Nicholas Primary.

Basically, for the TVPS, for a child entering into Primary 1, I believed that they have really making an effort to assist the child to adapt to the school life as well as parents.

I am concern about how effective is learning at TVPS after looking at my son’s timetable this week.

Many core subjects are broken into separate half hour session every day.

Eg. 1/2 hr Math, 1/2hr English, 90 mins Chinese, recess, 1/2hr English, 1/2hr PE, 1hr English then back to 1/2hr Math.

            Or

            12pm - Math
            12.30 - Chinese
            1 pm - Math
            1.30 - Chinese again.

I can imagine teacher rush in, class settle down, teacher teach for 20 mins then prepares to rush to another class. comes back 1/2 hr later trying to recap where she left off previously.

And school starts 2.30 on we’d. That’s 2 1/2 hours less to learn.

The teacher told me it’s manpower issues but did not provide any solution or assurance.

Seriously, I’m starting to have doubts about TVPS.

Hi parents, care to share about how the upper primary are doing?

              Hi clueless,

Is your child in p1 tis year? Its only tis year tvps has changed the school hours, infact the timing is longer by half an hr. Previously mon/tue is 12-6pm, wed 2pm, thur/fri 12.30-6pm. Almost all schools have contact time on wed, so the am sessn will be released early and the pm session will start late. It has been a pract by schools for a quite a few years now.

So far whenever i feedback or complaint to tvps, they take action or reply me very promptly. i suggest if you are not too happy about the split timing in core subj, you can email to the principal.

I am so happy to know that the school had changed the timetable for the new term 2. All subjects are now group together.

Other than organising some academic enrichment lesson, the school had also made effort to organize informal parent-teacher session. My son's class teachers also approach us at times to provide some updates.

Townsville has a student care centre in the school. Think it is a great move to have one there since it is very convenient for parents and the kids. Heard that the centre is nicely done up and is air-conditioned.

                      Hi monster mummy

So far my son seems to enjoy school. When I ask him why, he says he can choose to buy his own food/snack

                      Hi little red bull
Yes. Having a student care in the school compound makes it so easy for working parent like me. Just drop off am and pickup after work. Don't have to worry about those various timings for extra curriculum activities as the center staff will bring them. And they're open during the school holidays.

From what I see, the center also conduct lessons & worksheets. So at least my little one are getting some extra coaching than idling at home.

I feel that the center staffs also helps in adjusting my P1 to the new school environment.

I’m glad you child is benefitting from the centre. I’ve heard good things about the centre and I’ll certainly consider sending my kids there when my helper leaves.
