Don't get me wrong, I am not taking a swipe at NUSHS.
Pardon me, but thats exactly how it seems 😐

Oh well to each his/her own.

      Oops.....

but no track record leh....., plus as I said, limit intake, set admission test, and suddenly they are an elite school?? Seems a little far-fetched to me.

140 of them based on their own selection criteria; some scored in PSLE from 240 all the way to 27x…but PSLE is not the benchmark, so not fair to judge them by PSLE score. everyone has a bad day some day

no need to sit for O or A level, certainly a very attractive option

what is the benchmark to enter NUS / NTU / SMU or Oxford/Cambridge or the Ivy ?

or is it a guaranteed entry to NUS regardless ? what if not good enough for NUS, where to go ?

for HCI, we know certain categories of students who meet certain benchmark has direct entry into the Big 4 in China

Who says they have no track record? In the 2010 International Olympiads for Science and Mathematics (most prestigious Math & Science competitions for high school students), NUS High garnered a total of 7 medals, same number as RI. Hwa Chong got 2 medals. Other JCs like VJC, NJC and IP schools like Dunman High and RV got nothing. http://www.moe.gov.sg/media/press/2010/07/2010-international-olympiad-science-mathematics.php.

In the Singapore Maths Olympiad Junior Section, NUS High was the champion team for the last 2 years. Also, For Singapore Physics Olympiad, and the Junior Physics and Chemistry Olympiads, NUS High was one of the top two performing institutions, beating HCI pants off.

Come on ! NUS high has already selected the cream of the crop of those maths and science olympiads ( platimum receivers) during the DSA exercise. Obviously, they can produce stunning results. Unfair comparisons being made.

              You are right, Agreed!
There are people out there who did not know much about NUS High but keep saying negative things against them. Feel that they 吃不到葡萄说葡萄酸! Next time if want to say negative things against someone, find out more or else really let people feel that you are .... :stupid:

I have to say, all this defensiveness about one’s school (actually, children’s school) is befuddling and humorous at the same time.

It’s not as if the parents here had anything to do with setting up the curriculum, or school management, or select the teachers, or set strategy.

So, what’s up? Too difficult to hear a frank opinion about your child’s school, that could reduce your bragging rights as you go visiting during CNY?

                C’mon…

Its a brand new school with a brave mission. And with an admirable strategy, and fantastic marketing. LVMH could do well to learn from NUSHS on how to market exclusivity, which becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. Top in math and science? What’s the big deal, did they not SPECIFICALLY select for those students? The shame would be if they were not.

As I said, I have no allegiances, this not my fight. I am a 15 minute walk from NUSHS. If my boys are bright enough, that’s one of the few for consideration, in a few years. And I will make the consideration based on whether the programme is right for my child, not how many awards or olympiads they have won.

But don’t make it out to be what it is not, that its better than traditional, that has yet to be proven. And as if that somehow rubs off on the kids as being top of the bunch and therefore by implication, testimony to the parenting prowess thereof.

What's the school to you other than a place to educate your children?

What I have to say is that NUSH has really imported a model from famous US, England and Israel’s specialised maths and science schools for its curriculum. So it is not fair to say that it is just marketing. It really has the resource and curriculum modelled after reknowned schools.

Having said that, I’ll also say that it may too early to call for its success. I’ll judge its success when it has produced some world-reknowned scentists and mathematicians some years later.
