Upon reflection, I think you are spot on. Maybe too much of the 'Old Boys' syndrome has crept into our education system, you know the usual RI/RGS/RJC, CHS/HCI, ACS/ACSI cookie cutter, with all the old ties etc. Good to have a 'secular' institution from ground up challenging status quo.
NUSH is not a random upstart. It is deliberate part of a greater scheme by MOE/garmen to develop these potentials for d future. Look also at what A*STAR n science/bio hubs r doing. :celebrate:
Hey, we all benefit from diversity don't we? But don't know how this degenerated into a spitting contest.....it got personal real quick! -
WeiHan:
I'd disagree. It would be a disappointment if having swiped a significant fraction of the cream of students, that they all turned out to be leaders in scientific and technical fields only. Their mission needs to be greater than that.
To be more specific, they should be producing leaders in scientific and technological research. If they were to churn out lawyers instead like RGS does, I'll call the school a failure.3Boys:
What I am skeptical about is whether all this really translates into some greater end result than the traditional IPs. Yes, they select for the absolute best in Maths and Science, and they top the Maths and Science competitions, surprise surprise! Will NUSHS develop the leaders of the future? Well? Where is the track record of that? It has not happened yet, so I say, wait and see. Have they a programme that cuts it in the long term? I say, wait and see. -

Well, not in public, perhaps.......
the whole thread had that tone, and I didn't have the sense to keep out. (even now) -

Our kids are made of sterner stuff.please consider the feelings of the kids who studied there!
The rivalry that might exist between the students has moved on to the parents and is degenerating into a free-for-all. I cant seem to understand why.
We want the best for our kids and do what we think the best for them. So why should anyone's opinion (which we thinks is wrong) bring out this ?? :?
When DD saw this her only comment was, \" you all are too free\".
Her close friends are in other schools, and there is more camaraderie between them than rivalry. And thank God for that.
And a thought just struck me - Is this the Tiger mum in us that is rearing its head??
So , lets chill. :celebrate: -

I can't help laughing at these exchanges.
The wavelengths of the people involved are different lah...(please don't misunderstand and misinterpret me!)
Tiger Mum is derived from the following book. \"Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother\" by Amy Chua - a controversial book. Fyi
 -
MumSAH,
If only you had noted the \"tiger mum in us' in my post. It was not a reference to anyone in particular.
And it had nothing to do with the year of tiger. It was meant to refer to on the Amy Chua book.
Anyways , if it offended you, my apologies.
I do not stoop to personal insults in a forum. Not even when people throw insults at me.
Afterall we are here to share and learn more.
