Yes iam laughing at myself also. Yes indeed that parent do share alot with us. Is mine English... Iam not angry at all juz only ....i shd read alot. Anyway lets not touch on it anymore. I dont blame you for misunderstand when you thought people called you Tigermum, esp when your child is born in e year of Tiger and to someone who doesnt know who is Amy Chua! What i dont understand is Amy Chua is a person who is very strict to her children, why did 'that person' in that thread wanted to quote MumSAH something about that? Did she show people she is very strict to her DS?? Or that person is trying to ....Dont laugh at me if i made a mistake because i dont understand what 'that person' is trying to say either? Haha that the problem when your Eng is weak..i might be wrong...
By the way, MumSAH, i dont know who is Amy Chua either until i asked my hubby, i too curious, must we know her? Iam too glad that there is people like matadorepy and Innovate who always there to lead rather to tease!

I think that parent brought up tiger-mum because it happens to be a hot topic now (it keeps appearing in the newspapers recently and in this forum there is also a thread discussing it) and maybe she felt that it was apt as some parents could relate to it better. That parent is very helpful too, I have seen her giving very good advice in this forum. In fact, I think most parents here are rather helpful.

I myself can be quite ignorant too .. when someone laughed at my ignorance I would laugh with them together Really, don't read too much into what others said. Most mothers are so busy with their kids and household affairs, so it is expected that some do not keep abreast of current affairs .. I think it is okay not to know about Amy Chua or Tiger mum. And MumSAH - the way you said about rat-mum, snake-mum is quite funny and original too, so I was amused by the words but definitely not laughing at you or anything. I have gone through many years of English education here, but I am still checking the dictionary frequently, I googled a lot on English words which are unfamiliar to me, I am not ashamed of it as I learn a lot this way.

Yes my DS. It has been his and our dream school and only school that he wanted to go in since 3years ago. But I heard from my friends that it is very difficult. This year 2000 applying and only like less than 150 go in and psle they only take less than 14? And their psle cut off point is 264. Pls correct me if I am wrong. So hoped my DS has a chance. His math and science since pr 3 is A*. I think by DSA is very difficult for him as his knowledge out of the text is not so strong but his studies is all the while top 5 in the whole school.
So, can anyone please advise me will my DS suffer over there if he is acceped by PSLE instead of DSA? Will he be able to understand or cope over in NUS High? Again, this batch is 264, this year will be higher, right?

what ever the stated cut off point for PSLE intake, it does not mean more difficult or easier to get in. it all depends on the DSA exercise because NUSH does not take part in MOE S1 posting exercise.

as an independent school, it can choose not to admit anyone after the DSA exercise ending in July/Aug. then it could be deduced that the cut off point is even higher than the top scorer in the cohort. truly truly the most difficult school to enroll in, as it can also increase or decrease the intake as it wishes

I am not quoting anyone. I just feel that NUS High just want to be careful and choose the RIGHT student to go in, instead of just choosing anyone and end up both parties will suffer and i think the kid will suffer most because they will be wasting their time there. This is what most of my friends and me feel after a lot of discussions on why NUS High is so strict in their selection. I attended their open hse last year, they give me an impression that if they find the kids not suitable, they rather let the kids go to another school that is most suitable for him rather than spending their 6 yrs there. I prefer this type of selection. Although it looks cruel but isnt that better instead of wasting our time and $.

90% of the intake is chosen at phase 1 of DSA. the other 10% given out after PSLE result is released. Based on reported intake of 140 for 2011 Sec 1, that means 14 were offered to applicants after PSLE result were released

every school that conducts DSA exercise wants to choose their RIGHT student to go in. what is new ? to everyone who wants to get in and could not get in, it is cruel

A friend's dd tried out for NUSH DSA a couple of years ago. She couldn't get in and was not offered CO or WL. It was her dream school and she tried again post-PSLE results and managed to get in. She is doing well in the school and even does better than some of her classmates that got in through DSA.
